I haven't had any problem finishing down on black with LC black pads or CarPro gloss pad using Menzerna 3800 or Car Pro Essence. Then again my list of cars is no way a dent in the roster of heavy hitters here. Food for thought so you don't get stuck in the rabbit hole.

Thicker pads like Lake Country Force pads will solve your walking problem. Grab a couple of each size in case you want to get some flat panels done quick with the stock backing plate.
