    Any luck outsourcing services?

I advertise leather dye/repair, PDR and tinting. I don't receive a bird/dog fee etc. It does keep the phone ringing and the businesses I refer customers to send their customers my way for detailing.

any one had a successful direct mail campaign

I'm simply stating a fixed date such as expires on 4/30/14 would limit the usefulness of your EDDM throughout the year. For myself I choose routes that may have 100-500 households even less. I'm not trying to start an argument or be rude. I never said something didn't work or wouldn't work??I...

any one had a successful direct mail campaign

You don't need an expiration date. I've had better then average responses based on my marketing plan. What does common sense have to do with anything. There's more then one way to get a point across. A simple phrase such as "Book now to save 10%" list goes on and on.You can simply put expires...

    The brinkman light...

I misread post thought it was battery related but in fact bulb issues. I honestly can say the 3m light is a waste of moneyIMHO. It has a cool fan and all but for detailing it will drive you insane. Now if you are painting and matching paints it's a must have. I collect flashlights and it is a...

    Business logo tips

Most print shops will design your artwork for free if you purchase business cards,EDDM, etc from them.If you are going the vista print route you get what you pay for. In my area you can get 5k full color double sided heavy weight business cards for $100. With that price just bring them a rough...

any one had a successful direct mail campaign

I like the EDDM and it has worked for me. If I do work in a certain neighborhood I think has potential I'll pick that route. The only thing about putting expiration dates is you have to use them all at once. I had 5k printed to the EDDM specifications and send them out as needed. If the pollen...

    washing cars at a dealership

The only good thing about dealerships is you can learn the basics and not be responsible for damages etc. Having this site as a guide and doing dealer work will be a good crash course on what not to do (dealership) and what to do (AutoGeeks) when it comes to detailing.Be prepared to make $10 or...

    Wax for dd's

I use meguiars#21 for most DD. I can't think of the last time I've actually used a wax on a customers vehicle. Since most vehicles use an ounce or less of product price isn't really a factor for me.

    Mobile rig- Subaru Impreza

It's really not complicated to pressure wash all jambs with doors open. With correct motion no water gets into vehicle. On trunk area I throw a movers blanket over contents just in case.Depending on weight distribution you can keep gas tank at half or less full to help keep things level. I will...

    The brinkman light...

On my 3m battery pack I just opened her up and replaced batteries cells with new ones. It was a very simple procedure. I'm sure this can be done on most Brinkmans and most battery tools.

    new business help

I would put stamina and people skills (Gift of gab) up at the top.I can't count the amount of twenty year olds that I work circles around while they are about to fall out.Cost per car on materials isn't much maybe $5. You can always schedule vehicles around your current job. Two guys working a...

    How often do they return

When you say detailed twice a year that sounds about right. Maybe target your current customers friends/family with a promo etc.If you are trying to target your competition lower paying customers offer a mini spiff detail. I don't think I would lower your prices for your current packages.

    How do you advertise?

I really like the small community beach and neighborhood papers. Most neighborhoods have a small HOA newsletter that will help target specific zones. A wrap pays for itself ten times over . Don't pay to be on yelp etc it's free.

    Air Compressor, Detailer's Friend?

For interiors, a compressor is a must have. I have a damp microfiber in one hand and a blow gun in the other. I would say it's probaly my most important tool for interiors. I'm not sure how others can detail without one.

    Boat Detailing Products

If you plan on doing lots of boats I would buy product by 5 gallons at a time. I like aqua buff 1000 and 2000. I never have to skimp on product. Paint it on buff it off. For dirty non skid and rust Bar Keepers Freind.I always spray Crab shell in all jambs cubbies after cleaning them. It's a real...

    Vehicle for mobile business

It's pretty sad when a small business owner has to call it quits. Like clockwork every winter around here supplies, equipment go up for sale at excellent prices. This would explain why I own 20 pressure washers 15 vacuums and the list goes on. I also have an excavation and landscape company I'm...

    Vehicle for mobile business

I didn't realize it was for work and play. I never considered a Saturn Ion to be flashy or flashier then any vehicle on the road. I guess our definitions of eye catching are different. While detailing can be done out of any vehicle it is nice to have extra room available for future growth...

    Wash and Wax question

Wow!!! $5 dollars??? I know dealers are cheap but this takes the cake. Do yourself a favor and at a minimum quadruple your price. If they complain simply explain the free ride is over. These dealers know the cost of doing business and it's not $5

    Vehicle for mobile business

Glad to hear you picked being mobile over a fixed location. The saturn ion is junk imho. I forget about others being mobile up north with the snow etc.. I'm always dodging showers here in Florida. I currently own a 2010 Pontiac Vibe. It would make an awsome detail rig. They are just a rebaged...

    Did I hit a jackpot?

I think it's a very easy decision now. These guys are trying to keep their fingers in your pocket. If you are currently making $12 an hour and go out on your own you don't have much to lose. You will never make any real money working for dealers. My ex business partner runs a small production...
