    Flat or not for rotary??

Update...finish looking way better after I picked up a Megs W8000 foam pad. Good car to practice on since we know the painter really layed the clear on thick. For most of the work I was around 1500 and bumped up a little for the final pass with the polish. Car owner and rotary polisher investor...

    Flat or not for rotary??

I was wondering if it was a foam pad vs. a wool pad issue. Even the very limited directions that come with the Makita say to keep a 15 degree angle on the backing plate as you use the buffer. Thanks for all your tips, guys. Pat.

    Flat or not for rotary??

Trying to learn as much as I can by reading online articles concerning the use of a rotary polisher. Made my first attempt on my friends car and still lots of micromarring and fine scratches even after polishing. I was using the wool pads that came with the Makita 9227C. I am sure much of the...

    Zaino ZPC

Not a Zaino expert but most paint correction with a PC is done at full speed. Start with white pad and if test area doesn't clean up with that then go to orange. For the AIO black or blue pad and much slower speed. Not doing any correction just spreading product around. I would venture speed 2...

    Need rotary advice!!!!

I believe the place that sells the Megs #85 also carries the 3M finessing compound, is that the stuff you are using Asphalt Rocket? Pat.

    Need rotary advice!!!!

So what exactly would you suggest Asphalt Rocket. I am going to take a wild guess at the Menzerna line or perhaps Poorboys. Pat.

    Need rotary advice!!!!

I thought alot of the users here raved about the Optimum compound and polish as they have a nice long working time even with a rotary. I am pretty sure I even saw a video of a detailer doing a newer Ferrari with the exact same products that I have. Pat.

    Need rotary advice!!!!

I have the XMT #3 and XMT #1 setup. I also have some 3M Swirl Remover(too cheap to pass up) and I have access to Megs #85 from a local paint shop distibutor if I have to buy immediately and not wait for shipping. Pat.

    Need rotary advice!!!!

Thanks Bryan. Seen some videos on youtube showing them holding the pad virtually flat on the surface. I thought you were supposed to raise the pad so only say the 12-4 position is on the surface. Since the buffer was free for me I guess I could at least invest in some edge pads. Pat.

    Need rotary advice!!!!

Long story short I posted a thread recently concerning a friends race car that needs some paint correction. Some scratching mainly from working on the car so much and always leaning over the fenders. Anyways, UDM not really getting any results. Yellow pad, Optimum Compound won't even haze the...

    Taping Off before Polishing

Nice car you have there. Starting with the wheels they do sell those powerball sort of polishing balls that attach to any cordless drill. They are supposed to work well. I would say that with a Flex, assuming the orbital and not the rotary, you would be most concerned with taping off any plastic...

    Newbie question...

I would venture that a sealant would be your best protection and if you want some more shine top it with a good nuba wax. Pat.

    Happy Birthday to me!

Wow now I am having second thoughts about turning down the same gift for my 40th last year. I ended up going for something tangible arguing that the experience would only last a couple of hours while the camera lens that she bought would last me years if not forever. I am glad you enjoyed the...

Trial run with pc and xmt

I think sometimes we expect miracles from an orbital and a mild combination of pads and polishes. I know that I thought scratch removal would be easier with my UDM than it turned out to be. DA polishers are quite proficient at removing very light scratching and micromarring. RDS are not at all...

Which products to take swirls out of a 07 Nissan Altima?

I don't know about the good ole USA but up here in the Great White North I saw Nissan ads touting the new self healing paint. It is really supposed to work too. Pat.
