I am a very recent convert to rinseless wash and waterless wash, and it still makes me uneasy at times. So to me, the major disadvantage is wrecking my nerves that I'm going to scratch or mar, and if I have enough towels. However, the OCD is paying off because I've had so much success, I've used...
Ultimate Polish, especially by hand, is not what you need.
Buy a bottle of Menzerna PF 2500 (Power Finish) here on Autogeek. You will be amazed at the difference. Also get an 4" Lake Country Orange Polishing pad and a "polishing pal" to hold it if you want.
Just my suggestion as a...
For me, this isn't so much about making a "superior product" as it is for extending what I have on-hand. Occasionally, I have ended up with something I really like. My successful science experiements include:
QD: PBW Spray & Wipe with Megs UQW (about 60/40).
Spray Wax: UWW+ with Distilled...
Excellent idea, thanks Mike. Although to keep from ruining a good MFT, I might try a smaller portion of terry cloth towel or several layers of an old cotton T-shirt.
I'm a noob with the DA but finding 3M Auto Advanced Rubbing Compound to be easy. It will; however, leave haze behind, at least for me, but the next polish step easily removes it. I've been using it on RIDS moreso than swirls.
There are different 3M compunds. 3M Auto Advanced Compound, 3M...
As is Lake's Hydrotech, etc. I'm just saying, Cobra isn't making foam in the back room. If you use a Griots, Lake, Buff n Shine, CG, Cobra.. Eventually you're using the same pad, assuming a flat finish.
Very good results so far with the GG6. After some funny mishaps, I got the hang of it. Aside from masking off and prep, it's fun. One mishap involved a 4" pad on a 5" backing plate (I know) and the foam became delamintated from its own velcro backing. It SHOT out of the garage, down the...
Perhaps a generalization, yes, but not sweeping. Most of the public is going to read into the non-acid claim as a notion of safety to both the wheels and yourself.
Acid etches. Etching is bad for most wheels. Unless it's good, such as old style exposed porous metal wheels. Eagle One makes a...
Swipe Marks +1! Good term. Me too. I'm polishing this weekend, and sure enough it happens; however, what looks like a scratch is often just where the towel has picked up some polishing dust and dragged it across the paint. Not ideal, but not a scratch.
I tried the CD scratch test and...
Mostly, it will not etch your wheels. In some case, such as exposed polished metal with no clear coat, it's a must to use gentle cleaners and more elbow. On any wheel, as small amounts of product are left in the corners of spokes, you'll get etching with acidic cleaners. Rinse rinse rinse.
Very helpful Bob, thanks. Even UP says Glaze on it, but for some reason that didn't register with me.
BTW a well respected.detailer told me that UP is 205. Dunno.
