Correction for Hard Saddle Bag (with a sponge)

So I was riding my Kawasaki Concours 1400 perhaps a bit close to those 4' high reflectors that are supposed to keep you from changing lanes. I guess one of them didn't like me being there, because it came over and hit my left saddlebag. Dang. That's some thin SOFT paint. Time for a correction...

    Chemical Guys in Houston

I was excited to see Griots products at my local AutoZone. But with the retail price plus tax, online is still cheaper. However, I like knowing I can drive a few miles and get Best In Show immediately. Not being a pro, I have to do my detailing when the time is right. I would definitely visit a...

    Paint cleaner before LSP?

I like seeing the OTC stuff recommended by pros. If it works great, it works great, no matter where it came from. I have a bottle of P21 Paintwork Cleanser and gave it a mediocre review because my final stage polish and IPA were just as good, and available at WalMart.

    Civic Hood

I gotta show this to some people who think their red paint is destined for chalk. Now, had that chalky red been an older factory Mitzubishi Eclipse, it would have went straight through the clear with something like Menzerna 2500. By hand! Beleive me, I know :(

    Attacking the Dragon!

Amazing, stellar work! Having done a few touch ups with the 3M 3k and 2x by hand, I know how hard this can be to buff out such that the looks like eveything else. As Bob57 said, it must have been a decent factory finish to beging with. That car is badazz!

Question for anyone who uses Iron X or Iron Out

If using IronX on just wheels, why not use Sonax Full Effect? Safer and very effective.

Wax is more than Protection, IMO.

Excellent silverfox! I have often thought, why do I want thousands of magnifying lenses all over my paint that sit there and refuse to budge while I finish my shift with 7 hours left before I can "drive off" them beads? 'cause I like wax! (?)

    Hello from Florida

Lots of Floridians! Heck even 'Geek and PBMG are Floridian. Good job showing the other 49 that there's more to Florida than hanging chads, corruption, and insane Crackers! Im the MAN

Wax is more than Protection, IMO.

Great responses everyone, thanks! This has been very interesting. (To those who mentioned sealants - that's another completely separate topic!) There is no doubt that an application of wax makes a measurable difference (in the thickness of my wallet). Besides money, I also spend time...

What causes THIS kind of defect?

Thanks Robert. I definately clay, and lately have liked using Poor Boy's World Spray and Wipe as lubricant. However, I've never used the Iron X. It can't hurt and can only help, so thanks!

Help me identify all of my paint issues! (Test your detailing prowess pros!)

I like your car, looks very purposeful. And it's a Honda so she'll treat you right. The hard water spots on glass will come off with glass polish or even a medium-grade car polish. Follow with some weak isopropol then Rain-X or similar. For the wheels, since they are steel - I'd take them...

Wax is more than Protection, IMO.

I totally understand that it's the prep that brings the pop, and my cars have always looked fantastic after a good polish. However, they always look even better after the wax. Always. There's this camp that almost dismisses wax; saying it's for protection only. Why, then, would there be $100+...

What causes THIS kind of defect?

Thanks for all the great responses! The reason I thought they were more severe than typical swirls is that my Menzerna 2500 by hand did a great job on removing what I thought were swirls - maybe they were holograms/marring. Anyway, yes, I'm ordering a Griots polisher today. My drying technique...

What causes THIS kind of defect?

I can't call this a swirl, more like a tornado of scratches. What, on earth, would cause this? These defects were on my car when I bought it. As for correction, hand polishing with an orange pad, 3M compound, then Menzerna 2500 also with the orange, made it look better, but its still there...
