At this point I've changed my mods. I've gone with the top off the Makita BO6040 and put some wheel weights inside the outer ring. Also, I've switched out the backing plate for a Rupes backing plate. I'll try and get a picture for you. All the best, Robert

I've moved on from that mod. Now, I put the cap from a BO6040 on the 5000 and it's much more comfortable and easier to control. It took some grinding and cutting but it really helps. RSW

Rupes makes a backing plate you can put on, you just have to be careful not to use the wrong hex head bolt. I used the old Makita bolt. What worries me about running a 6 inch backing plate is that it will put more stress on the machine. I'd be careful to watch for overheating. RSW
