Yes. That backing plate will work. And, yes, the HF foam pads are good pads except the velcro on the back does not extend to the edge so you may find (like myself and others have) that the backing plate will come into contact with the outer edge and cause pieces of the pad to come off. Also...

Believe or not, this stuff has a nice look, it lasts, and it's only about $3.50 a can at Walmart. I know it's not one of the more touted detailing brands but it's worth a try for less than $4.00. Sometimes you can get them two for $5.00.

Would be nice if HF offerred a direct drive unit to compete against the Flex 3401. Although I'd like to get a Flex, I just can't get myself talked into spending $300+ for it.
