Limiting the Types of Vehicles You Do

I was asking myself this same question. I have a FT occupation during the week, bur love to detail cars on the weekend. I wanted to build my website and referral base in order to get some higher level cars and clientele so I took on some older and nastier cars to prove myself, but am now...

Top 3 Tips/Techniques that helped the most when first starting out?

    1. Do the research - buy the right products the first time...and stick with them. 2. Pictures and testimonials are key to getting new business 3. Some people will spend $50K or more on a car, treat it like crap, and then try and be surprised when it costs over $100 for someone to care for...

    Just watched a Horror Show

I have a FT job in a corporate setting and detail cars on the weekend. The building I work in has a weekly "detail" service that comes and washes cars while you are at work. They charge $30 for cars and $35 for SUVs. I came back from lunch early and parked near their setup and watched them...

    Steamer help

I was at our Harbor Freight the other day and they had a steamer in stock for $129...not sure about Houston, but you might call and check. This is the one I saw in their store. The store that is similar to the river in South America also has them and you can get it next day shipped if you are...

Worst interior I have encountered so far...

no new mats...there were never mats in the car in the first place. I did use a detail brush to make the carpet fibers into rows back and forth when I was finished cleaning...neat trick I learned from watching Larry on AmmoNYC videos. Good catch and thanks on the door pic - I didn't realize I...

Worst interior I have encountered so far...

Correct - I have a FT job during the week and this is a side venture because I love detailing cars and my wife lets me do this on the weekends because the proceeds go towards her Mini Cooper fund :). I don't get too much personal satisfaction out of the basic wash/AIO. I like the polishing...

Worst interior I have encountered so far...

Thanks for the kudos. I'll be honest...I love detailing, but this project sucked. I have no idea what the stains were, but my shop vac was calling me names for the crap I sucked up from under the seats. I kept telling myself that I was detailing this car for the pics to get new clients and I...

Worst interior I have encountered so far...

I was asked to detail a car this weekend by a lady who had loaned the car to her daughter for 6 months and she used it as her own personal garbage can. The lady now needed the car to give to her father and replace the one he wrecked. There was no way she could give him the car in that condition...

    finally finished my cart

Son of a... I just spent the afternoon making one from scratch and log in to see this thread. Oh well, I needed mine to fit under a folding table so I would have had to build it anyway. I am impressed with the ones pictured. Wish I had the space for one in my garage. Well done.

Does using the Optimum Hyper Compound/Polish mean less taping?

I am considering trying these and wondered if it means that using these liquids that "don't dust or cake", does that mean you don't have to tape as much as you would using M105 or M101?

Just Tired of loosing stuff in the Shop

It also begs the question on if they are stealing the items to work on projects "on the side" vs through your shop which is hurting your bottom line in more ways than one.

    Question on Mercedes Paint

So in reading through the forum, I came across a couple of topics about ceramiclear paint. One poster mentioned that if Mercedes cars paint codes start with a "c" it means they have the ceramiclear paint. I checked and my paint code is C040. Does this change how I should proceed with...

    Question on Mercedes Paint

I recently purchased a 2007 black C230 for my daily driver. I spent last weekend working on correcting some chips and scratches that came with it. I had read several posts and watched youtube videos about how to touch up the paint to the point where it is higher than the original paint level...
