    Curb rash...

Are you sure that is the wheel that is damaged? Or is it just a chrome cover? I'm thinking it's a chrome cover. I know for certain GMC trucks utilize chrome covers and I would guess Chevy does the same. I think all you really need to do is buy a new cover. Even in one of your pics, if you look...

Polishing headlights and removing taillight spray tint

Gasoline is probably ok... But again, try a small test spot before diving in.

Polishing headlights and removing taillight spray tint

No recommendations to answer the original question(s)... But... As far as the acetone you're considering on the tail lamps - Don't! Or at least don't use it without a small, inconspicuous test spot. I'm not sure what type of plastic newer lenses are made from, but in the past, I've seen...

    glaze

Personally, I think glazes such as Meguiar's #3 and/or #7 are great for show cars where they are used as a final product and any real or long lasting protection is not required. They will provide incredible depth and gloss. But, for anything other than strictly a show car where you are going...

Ideally, would it be best to buy a car on a sunny day?

Ideally one would inspect a vehicle in varying light conditions. Different types of defects are more (or less) obvious in different light conditions. Vehicle color also plays into it...Try inspecting a white car in direct and bright sunlight... You can't see #### as it's just too bright for...

Do you dust your daily driver?

Marring can occur anytime you touch the paint regardless of the process... Waterless/Rinseless/Traditional Washes, Towel Drying, Spray Detailers, etc. Do any one of them carelessly and trouble may ensue. The California Car Duster is no different... Use it carelessly, or too aggressively, and...

Do you dust your daily driver?

To the OP... With regards to the California Car Duster, do whatever you feel comfortable with and your experience teaches you. You're going to get comments both ways... I for one, am a proponent of using the duster, others think the duster belongs in the trash can. There aren't too many...

Do you dust your daily driver?

Black Truck... Not really a daily driver because I don't drive everyday, but it gets the California Duster quite regularly. The duster is also my first step when doing a waterless wash. Contrary to Rsurfer's thought, I feel it is safer to use the duster first (to remove the loose contaminants)...

What the heck are we looking at here?

Hard to tell. I always like to see the defect in person to make an accurate assessment... BUT... It does look like clear coat failure from what I see in the pic. I like your first recommendation to hit it with some Ultimate Compound and see what that does. Might get lucky... Maybe it's some...

When do you know that you went as far as you should go with a paint correction?

For the hood... I would just do a few more passes with the tools/pads and products you have to remove any remaining swirls/marring. Forget the random scratches. As far as the gloss and clarity go, the hood may never reach the level of the fenders due to simple physics. The paint on the hood will...

When do you know that you went as far as you should go with a paint correction?

My views on this topic are a bit different... I say you've gone far enough when you have removed the defects you are addressing. There is a caveat though. Some defects are severe enough that they can't be removed. This is where experience and judgement come into play. You have to make that...

    Looks like Overspray, thoughts?

DUBLOWS6 comment is absolutely correct. Heck, even factory finishes will have a few dust specks from time-to-time and they are painted in an environment that is as close to perfect as possible. In the refinishing world, even if the spray booth and it's circulation system is operating perfectly...

    Looks like Overspray, thoughts?

That is definitely not overspray. In most cases, overspray is something that you can feel, not necessarily see. Claying and/or compounding isn't going to do anything to improve that finish. I'm not going to speculate on the actual cause, there could be many, but I can't believe any reputable...

    iron

If you don't clay, then how do you remove the non-iron bonded contaminants? Exactly! At least that is how I see it. I don't buy into the claims that iron particles somehow bury themselves into the clear coat. I rather believe that they bond to the surface just like any other contaminant.

Is it best to keep an iron remover off of plastic trim when rinsing it off the vehicle?

Same here. I had it stain the matte gray lower cladding and bumper covers on a '94 Dodge Caravan (the wife's car at the time). I didn't actually do it, it was done at the dealership. I didn't even know about iron removers at the time, but I've always been skeptical of iron removers ever since.

    iron

About 5-10 years ago I tried iron removers a few times primarily because of all the hype surrounding them that I had read. While they do work at removing the iron particles, I don't currently use them on a regular basis any longer. In most cases, I feel the use of iron removers to be...

    Can one PREVENT water spots?

Not necessarily. Rain water will not typically damage the paint like tap/sprinkler water can. The only time I'd really be concerned with rain water is if the sun comes out immediately after the rain and before the water beads have been blown away or otherwise dried. When a car sits in the sun...
