Polishing my black 2018 Acura RDX - seeking advice.

I think the minor pitting is just a fact-of-life for anything that gets driven. It's most obvious on darker colors but it occurs to all. The cause is all of the debris the car is exposed to when driving. Out west where I live, there are days that are windy and dusty enough to do a year or two...

    Interior Cleaning - Over Chemmed....

For my personal vehicles, I'm in the camp where they never get trashed enough to need anything more than Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer for upkeep. While I do like the look of some interior dressings, as long as they are just a subtle enhancement and not too shiny, I refrain from their use...

    Vacation woes.

It sucks getting old. I'll be 70 this year (2023) and every joint in my body hurts at one time or another. And it is certainly not from inactivity... I exercise 5 days a week (45 minutes or so) and am generally active every day. My knees almost always hurt, especially after working on all...

    Vacation woes.

I can relate... While I was still working full-time, I would get time off at Christmas/New Years, typically 10-12 days or so. One year I was planning to rebuild the engine in one of my GTO's and wouldn't you know it, I got sick with a really bad flu for 6 or 7 of those days off. That was...

Don’t you hate finding dings/scratches on your car?

I would seriously reconsider following the steps in that video. To me, it was more like a highlight reel of what "not to do", than an instruction of "how to do". While the results look good on camera, I can guarantee you that it would not look so good in person. When doing any touch-up of this...

Don’t you hate finding dings/scratches on your car?

That sucks! And yes, it happened to me once in the parking lot at work, 2005-ish. And then about five years later... The fatal blow.

Polishing my black 2018 Acura RDX - seeking advice.

Here's my opinion... And it's just that... My opinion. I have no hard evidence either way, but it just seems to make sense to me. Would you take a dry pad and run it on a perfectly polished black panel? Probably not. I know I wouldn't. But if I had a black test panel, I might try it to see the...

Polishing my black 2018 Acura RDX - seeking advice.

Slightly off-topic, but somewhat related, the only issue that I have seen (typically) when inspecting a finished job in direct sunlight is maybe a streak or two that can be remedied with another wipe or a quick detailer, or the like. As far as marring, or other correctable paint defects go...

Polishing my black 2018 Acura RDX - seeking advice.

Yes. No. If there is any "glazed" product remaining after your initial light wipe, rewet the area with your polish (by hand) and immediately wipe. Very light streaks from polish residues, if any, aren't really that big of a concern at this point... Your wax or sealant application will most...

Polishing my black 2018 Acura RDX - seeking advice.

As hard as an internet diagnosis is... Here's what I see. The initial scratches appear to have been removed. The marring you are referring to looks like wiping streaks to me along with some tiny pits in the paint. The pits - probably nothing you can do to remove them. The streaks - repolish...

    Door Jamb Handles

Same here... Take out goes in the truck bed. Last thing I want is my interior smelling like pizza or burgers or chinese, etc.

    Door Jamb Handles

I've been into "nice" cars forever. Then, being a painter and doing high-end custom paint jobs, I've always been aware of how to touch, and not touch, cars. It's just natural that that carries over into my personality. When my kids were growing up, they hated going anywhere in my car ('97...

Inspirational/Educational YouTube videos (by REAL professional detailers)

The first one is over an hour long so I didn't watch it. The second one is like a psychology lesson that could be applied to anything, not only detailing.

I'm that guy:D If my truck is clean, which it usually is, and you put fingerprints all over the door or glass, you're going to hear about it. I remember being on a first date (a while ago) and the girl put her purse on the deck lid of my car... Date over.

What did you do today non-detailing related?

My refrigerator has been making a squealing noise, off-n-on for a little while, but recently started getting more consistent and louder. It actually woke me up the past two nights and my bedroom is at the opposite end of the house from the kitchen. So, I dragged the fridge out, cleaned all the...

polish pads and compounds for my old jeep?

Based on your description of expectations, I would start with a good AIO... Depending on the amount of correction you are looking for, Meg's #6 (or the consumer equivalent Cleaner Wax in the maroon bottle) or D166 are good choices. Of those three, the 166 will have the best correction ability...

    Door Jamb Handles

I'm going to look at these from the opposite perspective of the previous two posts. I too had to google them to see what they were... Never heard of them before. Here's my opinion... These things scream "gimmick" to me. If you can't figure out, or simply don't care, how to open and close a...

When can I apply a Sealant over new paint?

Washing/Polishing can be done at anytime... You just don't want to seal the paint with wax/sealant/coating until it fully hardens. Use a straight car wash soap without any wax in it. Not a wash & wax product.
