You want a clean surface for the coating to adhere. With that said, the WG glaze is advertised as not containing any fillers or waxes so it seems more of a polish than a traditional glaze. I'd try the WG glaze, clean with dilute ipa afterwards, then coat.

I tend to grab the synth sheep skin wash pad over the micro chanille wash mitts I have. I got one as a freebie and found that it holds much more soap than the dreadlock mitts do. The synth pad was also on sale for $2 for a while so I stocked up.
