If I was your age I would get a Porter Cable. Least expensive, lite weight, won't strike thru paint, short learning curve, some vibration, good for a hobbyist, works with all pads and polishes and most compounds, very easy to use. Good Luck on your decision!

After bug/tar remover, I sometimes clay it. If stains remain then go on to a paint cleanser like DG's SQC or DP's prep-polish. That should do it.

I use the detailing sites in the US and UK (those that allow it only) to sell higher end tools and/or trade with good success. Search them out discreetly and you should have no problems.

Do you do a PWash prior to your RW? Like Kamakaz1961 says: after a RW what method/towels do you use to dry the car?

I prefer D114 but on a long trip I would take ONR because of the additional polymers it leaves behind.

Agree with Sherif. Newer tires may need cleaning with a dedicated tire cleaner like Tuff Stuff and their brush 2-3 times. Old tires over 3-4-5 years old may need 4-6 times cleaning.
