:iagree:Let the sandpaper do the work, apply enough pressure that the sandpaper is always in contact with the paint. As far as a lube, I use just plain water. I also soak my sandpaper in water for about 15-20 min before I use them.

Do you remember what 3M products you used? My buddies boat looks like yours before and I want to give it a new look

Damn, how long did that take? Did you bring any gloss back to the gelcoat & was it still chalky?

I've always had better luck with working with flat pads. IMO they are easier to work with and finish better

Neither, I would go with a Bosch! Also, I'm sure you will find additional uses for it other than polishing wheels
