Do I need to get the city involved?

I'm on the board of zoning appeals for my town. I've also gone through this is process successfully, prior to being on the board. You need a plan and you need to talk to your neighbors because they bought their home thinking they would be living next to a residence not a business, it's selfish...

    business name

Follow my Facebook account. I have had a lot of success boosting specific posts, but I also know what fails miserably. :) I look at Facebook as a place to start a detailing dialog with potential customers. It lets them see your work (behind the scene stuff) and let's your personality flow...

    College Student Summer Side Job

Why is the upgraded wax yellow? Is it going to make my car yellow? Is the other x-press wax not applied by hand? Is one application better than the other? I like hand application. I heard buffing machine are dangerous, do you use those? See where this is going. Make it simple for your customers...

    business name

A lot of people (including myself) start a detailing business and forget about the business side of things. Decided if this is going to be a job where you earn an income or this is going to be a business, which will some day be an asset to you. I highly suggest searching these forums and...

    Readily available leather cleaner/conditioner??????

I would assume since it's an 2004 the leather is going to be pretty bad. I would just use an APC and brush, or maybe a non-scratch dish sponge. Using hot, damp microfiber towels to soften the leather prior to cleaning will help if you have to work out in the cold. Lay them on the surface for a...

    Spring Specials

When considering specials I try to add more value for the same price. I'm after customers who see the value in the work and what is happening, versus a customer coming to you because you discounted your prices. Maybe they'll be returning customers but more times than not they only saw price and...

    Detailing Menu

Break it down like this. Maintenance. Wash, Clay, Seal. Wash, Clay, AIO, Seal. Paint correction work separate, meaning you are looking for defects and trying to remove them. With an AIO I make 2-3 passes with a polishing or compounding pad and move on regardless of condition, it's just an...

Too much content on your website? (Version 2)

Look up 303 re-direct and see if that solves your problem. I can't remember off hand but I believe that should allow you to "point" as many URLs to another URL. Meaning you type in coloradoautodetailing.com could point to (or re-direct) to your business name URL. I went to college for computer...

Too much content on your website? (Version 2)

Huge improvement. Keep up the good work. Very professional. Make sure you use your original URL because the other one is not good from an SEO, marketing and remembering stand point. It's much easier to remember your business name, than your current URL. Consistency is key. :)

"Wash and wax" ....to machine wax or aerosol?

I find hydro2 to be too finicky (expect wheels) for production work (I'm personally slower when using hydro2 constantly worrying about streaking). I like opti-seal. WOWO with a microfiber towel. ONR wash, Clay, Opti-Seal, Dry. Regular wash for jams, wheels, cracks, etc. Personally I am at...

    Basic setup for $1000?

I think you've confused starting a "start up" and starting a business, and you're applying outliers to the average. Auto detailing is not a new idea, most of these companies or products you're talking about are NEW, therefore they are on a different growth curve than a normal business...

What "little extras" do you throw in?

I never do the same thing for every client, it's all situational and that works best for me. For example, I text my customer after dropping the vehicle off because EVERY personal item was out of the vehicle making my life easier. I thanked her and took $10 off the detail. She was a first...

    Basic setup for $1000?

I wouldn't buy a horse just because it's cheaper transportation than a car, even tho they both MIGHT take you to where you THINK you are going. Sorry, a car is way better and spending $1000 is going to give way better results than spending $100-200, there is a point of diminishing returns on the...

    Basic setup for $1000?

Do you just want to start a detailing business or do you want to start an efficient and effective detailing business? $1000 will get you a solid vacuum, metro sidekick blaster, microfiber towels, Optimum No Rinse, Ultima Interior Gel, assortment of brushes, various cleaners for tires, wheels...

    Getting cars over $100k?

These two things. I'm doing my first Porsche (2013 Carrera 911 s) after 2 years of being in business and they just saw my reviews and Facebook, and my work sold itself. Shouldn't your customers desire your services as much as you desire to detail their high end car? :xyxthumbs:

Bought a Steamer and Got No Results Whatsoever

It sounds like you're a little lost in how to effectively use a steamer to improve your business and detailing. I would search around, Mike has a very good write up involving the more powerful Dupray steamers (I own one), they're very good, and MUCH more powerful than the unit you have now.

    Quick Interior Cleaning Routine

Warm, Damp ONR towel wipe down, a boars hair brush and compressed air will usually take care of any maintenance interior debris. Any spills, etc use the appropriate cleaner on hand. Express/Maintenance interior I might use $1-2 of product MAX.

    New logo...thoughts?

I would remove the D's on the sides of the mountains. It looks a little funny, and I'm not sure if it's the font or the mountains are over powering them or both. Really great start. I think it's a unique logo and design for detailing.

#1 Tip if You Could Start All Over?

Far from it. The ability to hear an idea is far different than acting out what someone has told you without doing your due diligence. There are a lot of "arm chair" detailers out there. :xyxthumbs:
