Rinseless Wash Thoughts -- Feedback Wanted

I've been doing rinseless washes for about 7 years, using both ONRs, Ultima, Meguiar's and Duragloss, constantly trying different media and technique. Here's what I'm doing now: If extremely dirty, such as salt-sprayed in the winter, I'll pre-soak with a pump sprayer. My media of choice is a...

If and how much to dilute DG Aquawax

I used the 75/25 ratio with my FCS/AW and I'm very impressed. I actually mixed up the whole gallon. According to one of the brothers at DG, the 3:1 mix is enough to clean any buildup of AW that may occur after frequent repeated use of AW. I suppose you could mix it at any ratio you prefer...

    Microfibre cloth lifespan?

I don't rub my jeans or shirts against my well-polished dark paint, so that justifies my MF care regimen ! Bill

    Is a carnuba really necessary?

I have and use DG105 and Colli 915 often and see no issues using either one as a topper. 915 over 105/601 was my winter prep on a black DD two winters ago and it lasted well into late spring before I did my spring polishing. DG105 has some cleaner content, so I would expect it would hook up to...

    Labeling Bottles?

I have a P-Touch and have had success with the laminated tape. Prior to that, I bought some 1" vinyl stick-on letters from Office Depot. They've been on bottles for 5-6 years and have been holding up well. Thanks to all the abbreviations I've learned here, things like APC, OPC, M07, UWW etc...

Tree Sap Removal when away from home

Just get some hand sanitizer. Put a dab on the sap, cover it up and walk away for a few minutes. Alcohol is obviously the active ingredient, but the gel consistency keeps it from evaporating quick, as well as adding some lubrication if you have to rub a bit. Bill

DG rinseless as QD on fresh painted mirror...

I'm a regular user of DG Rinseless and last September had about half of my Black Lacrosse DD repainted due to an accident. I used only OCW to wax for the first few months, as Dr. G confirmed it was safe for fresh paint. I did weekly rinseless washes with DG, since I was more concerned about...

    Washing/Detailing a Classic Car

First of all, very cool ride! It doesn't get any better in first gen Camaros than a RS/SS convertible! I'm a disciple of Mike's teachings, as his advice brought my "survivor" El Camino from a faded mess to a trophy getter. From experience, I do disagree a bit with his washing philosophy on...

what's one product that has impressed you (lately)?

A friend recently picked up a sample bottle of Griot's Best of Show QD at the recent Vintage Grand Prix in Pittsburgh. I've tried it on the modern Black paint of my DD, as well as the OEM lacquer of my El Camino and am very favorably impressed. I don't use QD's much, but I have Britemax...

    Cobra bone wash sponge

Of course, but I never could find the "sweet spot" where there was enough liquid dispensed on the surface without excessive drips and runs on vertical panels. After a few tries, I just went back to my MF mitts and saved the bone for use with sudsy soap only. Bill

    Cobra bone wash sponge

I bought "the Bone" and didn't like it at all for rinseless. First, it holds too much solution, so it's too sloppy to do indoors. Second, it just wasn't flexible enough for me to follow contours without a lot of pressure. I've since gone to Meguiar's MF mitts and am very happy with them, even...

Blast from the past - TR3 Resin Glaze

Many years ago, I worked in a Buick Dealer that had been in the same building since 1939. I found a glass bottle of Meguiar's New Car Glaze with a Buick label, probably 50's vintage. Sadly, as a young man, I had no appreciation for vintage stuff, so I threw it out. Later, in the 80's, I bought...

Blast from the past - TR3 Resin Glaze

This is my first pic insertion since the photobucket fiasco, so we'll see how it works. Here's some pics of my vintage products: I didn't collect any of this stuff, as I'm old enough to have purchased them before they were considered "vintage". Most of the Meguiars stuff is still available...

Fusso coat dark vs collinite 476s vs fk1000p vs collinite 915

I've never used the Fusso, but have used all three others. As for durability, I think FK has a slight edge over 476 and 915. Collinite says on their web page that 476 lasts longer than 915, but 915 has more of a carnauba glow, especially on dark colors. My experience mirrors that, but the...

    Polish Comparison Chart

Typical scenario of no standardization of the term "polish". DG uses it on a number of their products, just to denote they have some cleaning and very mild defect-removing qualities. Other companies might call them a "cleaner wax". BTW, that's no offense intended to DG, as I use 501, 601, 105...

Is D120 as good as Stoner's Invisible Glass? Better? Worse?

I have both on the shelf and reach for the D120 most often. I prefer the more controllable pump spray over the aerosol can. Neither one does a better job, IMO, as I feel the results are more determined by technique than product. Bill

What products do you recommend for DA Polishing

That's a good start. You can use either pad with a polish, depending on how much correction you need. I'd add a couple waxing pads too, so you're prepared to do something other than a coating Once again, you can always add to your collection later. Keep it simple to start. Bill

What products do you recommend for DA Polishing

I always recommend a new user start with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and Meguiar's 205 polish. Both have an easy learning curve and are very available and inexpensive. Once you get more experience, you can always branch out to other brands later, but you'll never regret having UC and 205 in your...

DG 601 combo with 105 AFTER 501 correct?

I mix DG601 with virtually everything DG. Not only does it extend the longevity, it also allows for instant topping. Are you satisfied with the clarity of the finish after the Meg's 105? I use a lot of DG501 for its cleaning ability, but it doesn't really have much swirl-removing ability, IMO...
