How Long Did It Take To Break Even?

I broke even pretty quickly. Between my low purchasing costs, and my extremely low overhead, I came out on top after the first year. Now, my products are the only real purchases.

    Dreaded Door Panel Speaker Holes

Getting the speaker paper wet will be the biggest issue. Toothpicks work, but they're so incredibly time consuming. I try to get the crud out with a tooth brush, then shopvac directly behind it. Touch it up with some APC and let it be.

    All about pad selection...

I tossed up those vs the CCS in my last order. Ended up going with CCS. Guess I'll have to try out the thins next :)

    Getting customers

First thing you need to stop doing is catering to everyone. You will lose. Secondly, figure out the demographic that you want to cater to, and do it. Tweak your advertising, facebook ads, etc., to that demographic, and move forward. The biggest issue I see is that younger people want the...

    Waver for engine cleaning?

This. I don't offer engine detailing. If you want it done, you'll have to find someone else. Not worth the hassle for me.

What's the biggest thing you're struggling with in your business?

Establishing a steady client list. Granted, I'm in the worst possible location to have an upscale detailing salon. We will see if this move to Nashville next year will help. Has anyone used facebook ads? results? comments?

    What not to do

THIS! I don't even know where to start on this thread. I started about a year ago. I had been reading on here for a while, watching video after video, reading thread after thread; Thought I was ready. Wrong. I spent about a grand getting all of my equipment and product, put together some...

    New Shop Build

Even if you have excellent insulation, the idea is to keep the heat from reaching the roof. With a fan, it forces the air back down, as well as the AC, so in reality, it's a win/win. A tad expensive, but on those really hot days, or really cold days, you'll be happy you have it.

what's a good after market windshield wipers?

The Icon's work wonders in the winter. Cheaper blades streak out early, don't last, and end up being more of a pain in the rear. Spend the $, and do it right the first time. +1 Bosch Icon.

Use of wheel cleaners and protectant

Would be a good practice to cover the rotors if possible. If you're able to take the wheels off and clean them, do it. Then cover the rotors and caliper.

    detailing to prevent lawsuit?

This. If I read correctly, your shop is near Vegas, the owners car is there, and the owner is available to see the vehicle at any point? If it were me, I'd take the owner to the shop, document the condition upon arrival, take pictures, and have a form written up dismissing any personal liability...

My wheel regime is killing me, help!

I think I last used a bottle of CG APC 10:1, spray, agitate, rinse, dry. 100% happy with results. 5-6 minutes tops for each wheel. Wheel wells are a different story, depending on how dirty they are, but they still shouldn't be taking you an hour. Granted, there's no loss in taking this long IMO...

Your favorite pad + why it's your fave :-)

Well, I bought 6 Orange and 6 white CCS pads, but I'm curious about these "hybrid" pads now. I watched Mike's video on youtube yesterday about those 3 with the wolfgang lineup, and it seems so easy. I got orange/white because I didn't know what else to get! Thanks Paul for the heads up about the...
