Detailing Chromed Engine and Engine bay

It won't handle serious corrosion, but my favorite AIO for chrome and aluminum is Collinite 850 Metal Wax. Bill

Zep citrus does it dry out plastic / rubber

Any highly alkaline cleaner has the potential to dry out soft surfaces, but don't overthink it. Unless you're using it very frequently and applying no dressing or protectant, I see no reason for concern. I do an engine cleaning yearly on my 30 year-old El Camino using Citrus diluted to 1:4 and...

Mike Phillips Red 4X4 Chevy Truck on CARFIX

Looks like the '73-'87 GM's are getting a lot of interest on TV. Last weekend, Willie and Kevin on Two Guys Garage did an episode on an '86 short bed, as well as Stacy of Gearz doing a 4X4 build. Makes me miss my '79 and '83 shortbeds I had in the 80's and early 90's, especially the '79, which...

spray wax for door jams etc?

I did a few cars with Meguiar's PP365 last fall. I was impressed enough that I did all the jambs and door shells of the family DD fleet. It sure helped them stay clean through the winter. Since you wipe rather than spray, it's easier to keep it off non-painted surfaces. A little more work is...

Rust colored ring runs the inner circumference of brake rotor

I've been in the automotive business all my adult life and I have to agree with Setec. I've never seen a wheel come loose because of any anti-sieze in the hub, but I've seen way too many alloy wheels that required a scary amount of force to break loose the bond caused by dissimilar metals...

Detailing a beater! - 1972 Buick Riviera Boattail - Review: Lake Country Force Hybrid Foam Pads

Cool ride, Mike! Nice work for a one-step! Always nice to see you bring one back from hibernation. I, too, am a Boat-tail fan. Had a '73 back in the mid to late 70's, eventually trading it for a Corvette. Unfortunately, the bumper laws of '73 corrupted the true boattail look of your '72, but I...

Anyone have experience with Finish Kare Hi Temp Paste Wax?

I've tried in on my paint a few times and never really cared for it, as it just doesn't seem to hold "the look". However, it is my hands down favorite on wheels, chrome or painted, as it lasts far longer and resists brake dust buildup batter than anything else I've tried. Bill

    Competition Ready Experience

Congratulations, Michael & JustJesus! That had to be a great experience, even if it was tedious work. Just having Mike looking over your shoulder, while trusting you to put the CR touch on a million dollar car, had to be a satisfying endorsement of your talent. Bill

Anyone tried out BRITEMAX detailing products?

I won a Britemax giveaway at Autopia back in the fall of 2015. Here are my reviews: Autopia Forum - Auto Detailing & Car Care Discussion Forum Autopia Forum - Auto Detailing & Car Care Discussion Forum As stated, both products exceeded my expectations. The car wash is absolutely the slickest...

    Review: McKee`s 37 N-914 Rinseless Wash

I have used either the AG mitt or the similar one from Meguiars for years and only use one bucket (with grit guard) for a rinseless wash. When I started doing rinseless washes, ONR was the only product I knew of on the market and Dr. G stated that a second bucket was unnecessary. I use them as a...

    Optimum Opti™ Clean function?

Here's a quote from Dr. G., Optimums owner and chemist that should answer your concern: "Based on the chemistry of these products (Opti-Clean, No rinse, Instant Detailer), there should be no bonding issues or affects on the longevity of waxes or sealants when you use these products before or...

    Optimum Opti™ Clean function?

I've been using it for years and certainly don't consider it a "heavy cleaner". It's no stronger than the other WW's I use, Ultima and DG. I use it primarily on interiors, as it's safe for any hard surface, while not stripping the dressing. There's always a small bottle in my console that I use...

    Harbor Freight Tool Box

I work for a Chevy dealer with about a dozen techs. As you might expect, Snap-On, Matco and Cornwell are the predominant toolbox brands. One of the younger guys bought a HF 40" lower box last summer. I asked if he'd do it again and he replied "definitely". He added " I make my living with my...

Mothers Cleaner Wax to the rescue.

I've been using 885 Fleetwax for years and IMO, it's just 476 paste in a larger tin. I've done test spots with both on the same dark-colored vehicles and can discern no difference. According to Collinite's website, it's only for clean finishes, so it's no AIO. I've always had an urge to try...

I've got some products on the shelf and trying to decide which to use

That's the combo I'd try. I used Opti-Seal as a standalone a few winters ago on my daughter's car and wasn't impressed with its durability through a PA winter. DG105/601, IMO, lasts longer. The past few winters, my DD has seen 105/601, topped with either Collinite 915 or FK1000p and both have...
