Bringing A Polisher On The Plane?

There is no consistency with the TSA, and if stolen you will be stuck between the TSA blaming the airline and the airline blaming the TSA. Mail it to your destination via UPS, FedEx, USPS, with lots of insurance and save yourself a mountain of grief.

    My New Leather!

+1 on the Katzkins leather. Did that on my pickup and it is great, heavy duty stuff. For those asking, the 2-door Tacoma Access cab with mandatory seat heaters cost about $1,400 installed.

    I wish winter wasnt coming!

I hear you. Mobile in Portland area. Rain has killed my last 2 weekends and put me way behind. Try hot water (boiling even) in a large 5 gal Igloo water cooler, then take that with you. That gives you on-site water that won't freeze as quickly, and the warm water can boost your carpet cleaning...

    canyon vs titan?

But are you extending the term of your loan? How long? If so, it's not $11 more per month, it's actually thousands more. I'm about to pay off my 2008 Tacoma, and having the extra $400 per month to put toward stuff --I-- want will be really nice. The siren song of a pristine, new ride is strong...

    ---= trading feedback =---

Just fulfilled my part of a trade with rzatch. Appreciate the quick response to my Colinite request, and the extra little something he included. Thank you, Ron.

As far as a web site...

I've had the same experience. Get listed on every online phone book you can think of from. Yelp, Citysearch, YP.com, Google, etc. This does not require a website, but the listing can contain your URL. I believe the biggest benefit from a website is the ability to show off your work, lots of...

car and driver article is a recipe for disaster.

C&D just doubled our business??? Idea: Magazine subscriber lists are for sale. Many of us are looking for more business Wonder if a bunch of us could chip in, buy a list of C&D subscribers in our zip codes, then pitch them a 'C&D repair' detail package. Could be much more profitable than...

That is fantastic. Bravo! :props: :iagree:

    How Many "side" Car Detailers...

Not yet. I need to see if I can sustain any business over Oregon's perpetual rainy season (I'm mobile). Benefits: You keep code enforcement and tax dept off your back You may get a little additional business from people who view license = legitimacy. Drawbacks: I'd be paying about 17% in sales...

Restoring/Preserving old Single Stage Paint - Carnauba? Sealant? Or both?

Not sure about M7, but many use Dawn dishwashing liquid to strip wax/sealants from cars.

how did you get new business when starting

    1. Back of my business cards (Vistaprint) offers 10% off first detail scheduled with a spot for the referring customer to jot their name. I make sure to point that out when I leave 3-4 cards. 2. If you know little or nothing about websites, most hosting companies have pre-packaged templates you...

    Reliability of the Griot's 6

At the time I decided I wasn't going to ask either company to pay for sudden onset cranius rectallus. Even better, the customer saw it. Asked "Did you know you ran over your buffer?" Replied "Yes ma'am. I don't re-use anything to avoid transferring contaminants between cars".

    washing in the rain

Come on over. It's a nice place to live and most of the 'rain' is what I would call an 'all day drizzle' That said, if you're mobile the phone stops ringing when it starts raining. Always seems to come in for the weekend too which kills my business.

    Reliability of the Griot's 6

The only thing mine hasn't survived is being run over (don't ask...). With a lifetime warranty backed up by AG what's not to like?

    Help Cleaning Pads!

Normal wear and tear. The pads pick up color from the compounds as well as from what it's rubbing off your car. You might try some 'snappy clean' or other pad cleaner, or spray with MF cleaner and agitate to get some more out. As long as the pads are firm and cut similar to new ones, nothing...

    UPGP or Colinite 845

Mobile and part-time, the shorter days are really beginning to cut into my ability to do work after 5:00 pm. UPGP's wipe-on, walk-away is appealing to save time waxing, but the legendary Colinite 845 durability might be better for durability as a winter-prep wax on the mom-taxis I typically do...

    The two bucket wash

Next time you finish a wash of a 'really clean' car, just let the water sit in your bucket for a day or 2, then pour off. All the yecch that settles in the bottom of the supposedly clean wash bucket will guide you. I'd post a photo, but I just rinsed mine out.

    Sister ruins full interior detail.

I do family cars free, to practice new tools and techniques. My theory is if I screw something up really, really bad, it's family and they will return the favor at some point. She just paid it forward.
