It starts after the first application flashes and closes when the coating is fully dehydrated of solvent and stops making new cross links. There is no exact time due to variables. Like i mentioned, its easy to tell by just wiping some on.

If you apply it while the first application is curing it will bond and add thickness. If you need to touch up any areas within 1-3 months it should layer...but, once fully hardened it will likely reject another application unless you Polish lightly with Optimum Finish to microscopically scuff it...

Setec is right, it's just to make sure the surface is clean and smooth so the bond will be with the surface and thus, permanent. Neither Polish II, Hyper Polish, nor Finish will marr. As long as your not using wool or a dirty pad ;)

If your wash method is solid, you'll go much longer between polishing and claying sessions. Also, as recommended earlier OID looks great on the coating adding gloss and slickness with quick application and its very economical.

All loose dirt should be removed before claying or you will see horrible marring. Caing is to remove "bonded" contaminants that a wash won't remove. Loose dirt under a clay bar will do lots of damage.
