As good as using a water filter, also washing in the shade will help a little and there are also shampoo's (for example Dodo Juice Born to be Mild) which have water softners in them.

I understand your concern, but the weather and temps in scotland, even at their best will max at 20 degrees celcius. Only issues i have really had to overcome is products drying out too quickly (3M was a good example of that, so evolved to Menz now to Scholls/Megs), so need to provide good lube...
