What are the best "over the counter" products for removing swirls with a PC7424 from places like auto zone or oreillys?

Just ordered my pcxp, griots 3in rotary with megs #82 and #9 (i think) and lc pads. I know its a good idea to start off with a less aggresive polish and then work your way up. Should you step your pad u before polish or polish before pad?
