    Damp sanding RESULTS with pics...

Purchased a black '79 T/A with a 20 yr old repaint. Flat surfaces were very rough and heavily oxidized. Polishing with Megs 105 clogged the w4000 with a black gum. Results were mediocre at best. After seeing Mike's damp sanding article, decided to try 1500 & 3000 on the PC. I'm not an...

How do you prep a Unigrit disk?

I'm going to try damp sanding using a PC7424 with Unigrit 6" 1500 sanding, finishing and 3000 finishing. The car is a black 79 Trans Am that was repainted about 20 years ago and seems to have been parked in the sun most of that time. I know the speed to keep the PC is between 3-6 and mist...

Is this paint too far gone for wetsanding?

I bought a '79 black trans-am that was repainted about 20 years ago. It seems to be a base/clear. The run-off after sanding was gray / white color. The hood, roof and trunk are severly oxidized...water drops "stain" the surface of the flats and the reflection is almost nil. (attachment 1...

    Cyclo as an investment?

I have been an amatuer detailer for twenty-some years. I started with a GEM 16 lb orbital, then added a Porter Cable and Flex 3401 to the collection. Finally got the guts to try a Makita rotary. Never tried a Cyclo, but have always been curious. This past week, I noticed 3 used (VERY used)...

    Wool pad care & cleaning

What is the recommended cleaning for rotary wool pads? I use XMT or Snappy for the foam pads, rinse & dry face down. I know about spurring a wool pad, but should they also be washed the same way as foam?

    Wet-sanding with a pneum DA...wow!

I saw a 5-part Meguiar's video series (on YouTube) about wetsanding and buffing with a rotary. The last video (part 5) demo's wetsanding with a pneumatic DA palm sander. Seems like a very effective way to achieve uniform results. I also watched Kevin Tetz (Paintucation) use it to make clear...

    Meguiar's Flat vs. LC pads

Oh man, NOT ANOTHER PAD QUESTION!! I've used only LC pads for both the Flex DA and the PC 7424 and have had great results, esp with Menzerna products. I'd like to use the 9227 for more than headlight restoration and small areas of paint correction. So far I have only used LC 3" pads with...

    Miracle in a bottle

I recently detailed a 2003 Toyota Highlander. The owner was almost too embarrassed to leave the car, saying it was "too dirty". She has two small children and a dog.... I used 303 Cleaner & Spot Remover on the tan cloth seats....and the results were amazing. I mean AMAZING!!!! Here's the...

    Hello from Illinois

Hi everyone, I've been detailing as a hobby for almost 20 years. I agree that the hobby has become an addiction, but I have no plans for attending any DA (detailers annoymous) meetings. My habit is fed by family and friends....I don't charge for any work I do. Once my hobby becomes a job...

I am detailing my new brother-in-law's car. It's NEVER been detailed, brown & nasty leather seats, gummy arm rests, yellow headlights....you get the picture. The rims are original...aluminum, I believe. The face of the rim is not bad, but the lip between each spoke has SEVERE brake dust...

    Flex & Menzerna Final-Polish question

Applying Menzerna Final polish on a gray LC pad using a Flex 3401. Application in a covered garage, about 70 degrees. Applied two "dime sized" blobs on the pad, started the Flex on "2" & started to work in the polish. By the second pass, the polish had turned clear, wet. Should it be a...
