    Are These Headlights Salvageable?

I've been seeing the "sand and spray method", is that any better long-term than the "sand, polish, then spray method? It looks just as effective.

    Are These Headlights Salvageable?

So after all the feedback, I'm going to wet-sand by hand w/400-2500 then polish out with M105/205. So all I need now is your recommendation on a UV clear coat spray. If the little fissures are deep, maybe I can expose them enough to where the UV clear coat spray would fill them in and 'hide' them.

    Are These Headlights Salvageable?

Definitely last resort, lol! But it's only the top part that looks like that, in person it's not too noticeable unless you look really closely. It's definitely a sanding job, haha. Do you have any preferences between sanding by hand vs machine (ie. 3M Headlight Restoration kit)? Pros and cons...

    Are These Headlights Salvageable?

That's a good idea. Wetsanding is easy, I agree. I just worry about efficiency with the damage I have. I guess I'm approaching it the same way when correcting paint - compound by hand or compound by DA. Is there anything specific that hand-sanding can accomplish that machine-sanding cannot...

    Are These Headlights Salvageable?

The 3M Kit comes with 500, 800, and 3000 grit. Luckily right now the damage is mainly towards the top end of the housing and doesn't effect the light output. But I definitely want to take care of it soon. I don't have the 3.5 backing plate on my PC and the 5.5 might be too big. I'm assuming I...

    Are These Headlights Salvageable?

More than just being pitted, scratched, and starting to fade yellow...but it's those thousands of little 'worm-like' scratches/fissures. They're not deep enough to where I can feel them with my fingernail. Could've been there when I bought the car used but noticing it even more now since it's...

    How well can UC correct?

Haha...great incentive, thanks! I'll pick some up today at the local Walmart and see how it goes. I think I'll do a test comparison of M105 vs UC on the hood of a 2006 Jet Black BMW 745i that I'm workin on.

    How well can UC correct?

So I'm in need of a new compound and have been debating on Meguiars M101 and UC. Would I be able to get the same results using UC on a PCXP and an LC Orange Flat pad? I have no doubt that M101 would knock out defects easily, but I know equipment makes a difference as well. If I can achieve the...

Help! Seems I can detail every car but my own! Marring?

It looks like you're finishing it using a black CCS pad. The black pad is too soft and won't get rid of the marring, they're usually used to apply glazes, sealants, or waxes. You may want to look into using a white pad instead. I'm working on my step-dads 2006 Jet Black 745i. And M105/Orange...

    Need Product Recommendation

Assuming you're only doing a 1-step correction, for light/fine swirls I would use: - M205 - Sonax Perfect Finish - HD Uno But you have a great line-up of products already...so like you said if it's a "lack of technique", work on that first and you should start seeing better results. What's...

    New Combo For Priming M105?

So I tried a hybrid approach and primed the pad with Pinnacle Pad Conditioner AND M205, then used 3 drops of M105. Better working time, less dust, easy to wipe off, BUT significantly less cut! I didn't expect to lose as much cutting ability as I did. Again this is on PC and 5.5 LC Orange pad...

    New Combo For Priming M105?

Cool. I'll try priming the pad with M205 and to 2 drops of 105 and 1 of M205. I'll also try priming another a pad with baby oil or pad conditioner and use 3 drops of 105.

    New Combo For Priming M105?

I've tried priming the pad with M105 but it still caked up quick and dusted like crazy. I don't have any problems with M205, it's just the M105 when I'm compounding. There's a thread that suggests priming the pad with spritz of baby oil and people have been giving positive feedback. I should...

    New Combo For Priming M105?

I've read the threads of different ways to prime your foam pad to achieve a longer working time and less dust. 1 combo that I didn't see mentioned that I'd like to get your feedback on is: - LC Flat Orange sprayed with Pinnacle XMT Pad Conditioner, then primed with M105, then 2 pea sized drops...

    2001 Chevy Suburban

Looks good. One suggestion, if I may? If you plan on doing any compounding or polishing, it's probably better to use a citrus based soap or even water+dawn dish soap instead of Meguiars Gold Class. That way it'll strip away any existing sealants and waxes on your paint. It'll make your...

Nice site. Great way of documenting your process. One suggestion is to modify the width of your main frame to give you more real-estate for content, it'll also allow you to make improvements to the layout.

Thanks. Still working on some images, gotta finish the 745i first and I just got my pads in today. I'll check yours out also. I'm using Weebly, which is a simple free website creation service.

Let me begin by saying that as an enthusiast, this is strictly a "side-thing" for me. This is in no way my primary source of income, and I'm thankful for a great full-time career. I've been detailing our personal cars for a long time and never thought of putting up a site, so I don't have any...
