How to restore the original paint on my 1967 GTO.

Some good points here. Considering the old lacquer is "parched", moisturizing the paint is a good move. I've used the Meguiars' #3 as a machine polish, since it is similar to #7, but with some abrasive content, but M205 or M210, even the consumer Ultimate Polish work very well also. As for the...

How to restore the original paint on my 1967 GTO.

Start by following this link from 2010: The Secret to Removing Oxidation and Restoring a Show Car Finish to Antique Single Stage Paints The cleanser idea isn't all bad, but I've done a few single -stage lacquer restorations and I prefer either Bon Ami or Barkeepers friend brands for less...

What's Your Favorite Go To All-in-One Interior Cleaning/Protecting Product...?

Ever since I got the recommendation from Dr. G, I've been using Optimum Opti Clean, diluted 3 to 4:1, as my interior go-to for all non-cloth surfaces. It's a slightly less aggressive cleaner than Meg's QID, but leaves a better finish with no unpleasant scent. I carry a small spray bottle in my...

Your thoughts on vehicle service maintenance

I can't speak for the other brands, as I've always worked at GM Dealers, but the Oil Life Monitor is simply an engine hour meter, nothing high tech. Obviously, if your averaging 30 mph, it's counting down twice as fast as averaging 60 mph. I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles. In my DD commuter...

What do ya'll like for windshield protectant?

I've become a fan of the Griots. I'll do it every 2-3 months, depending on the "breakaway" speed, the speed at which the water droplets start to show some real movement. Once it goes beyond 35 mph or so, it's time to redo. I use my wipers very sparingly, which likely adds to the longevity of the...

    *Your first car*

Had a couple short-term rides previously, but this was my first "real" car when I went away to college in Michigan in 1969. '64 Impala SS, 327-300HP, Muncie 4-spd and factory tach. It held its own in the Motown stoplight races with all but the serious muscle cars of the day. I've had a bunch of...

Cleaners For The Cheap & Lazy - Interior and Tire

My favorite interior cleaner is Optimum's Opti-Clean. Advertised as a waterless wash, it is approved for all non-fabric interior surfaces by the owner of the company, including touch screens. Diluted 1:3 to1:4 it cleans light dirt well, has no strong scent and leaves a smooth-feeling surface...

    Not enough duct tape...

I think they need "Jelly" from "Analyze This" to open a duct tape repair shop in Florida, since Paul Vitti is still serving his time.

Other hobbies or past times outside of detailing

We've been winding down our schedule as we all get older and less energetic, but I spent much of the last 30 years of my life as part of a local Dirt Sprint Car team. After being fans for many years, a few friends and I purchased and reconstructed a used Winged Sprint Car and travelled the local...

Quick tip regarding wet/dry vacuum filters

Thanks for the tip, Eldo. I've been doing the same thing for years, using "Plus Size" Women's "Knee Highs", kinda a much shorter version of ladies stockings. You're right in that it drastically reduces filter cleaning intervals as well as the mess. I have to check these out and see how they...

    Wash Mitt Battle

Personally, my favorite is the white Meguiars MF mitt. It's thick enough to be safe and releases dirt more easily than any other one I've tried. I also have one of the Griot's MF mitts. It's much thicker MF nap, but it's gray in color, so dirt doesn't show as well, which is a negative for me...

    Rinseless wash question

I've been doing 90% rinseless washes for the last ten years or so, using ONR, Meg's D114 or Duragloss rinseless. My favorite tool is a Meguiars Microfiber mitt. I wipe in one direction only, which picks up the majority of the dirt along and near the leading edge. Then make a pass in the opposite...

    Unknown Bubbling in paint

Is it only on the roof? Z06's from that era had a recall for failing adhesive that required removing and replacing the roof panel, so it possibly could have been repainted by the dealer doing the recall. If you PM me the last 8 digits of your VIN, I can check it out on the GM Dealer Site. Bill

    Some Oldz Blue Coral

Here ya go: Still have these buried somewhere on my shelves. Back in the early 80's, a local store was going out of business and clearing all their waxes out. I bought out everything on the shelf with the Classic label. Slipstream was actually easy to remove if you rubbed it in well when...

Spray wax streaking .. solved & Collinite 845 diluted

I remember reading here a few years ago about some similar problems with Aquawax after multiple frequent applications. Apparently, AW has a higher solids content than many spray waxes, so it can build up if applied too frequently, causing some streaking. One of the brothers from DG recommended...

Finally going to start doing/using RW and WW's... Here are my options

I'm not a fan of waterless , except for my garage queen Camino, which never sees rain. I do much more rinseless than soap 'n bucket for the DD's in the fleet. All of the ones you mentioned are good, but my favorite in colder temps is the DG. It just seems to dry faster and clearer. Bill

Tenkor Apex Zero -G Water hose. (Or other choices)

I've had a Zero-G for over 5 years as my backyard hose the wife uses to water all her plants and flowers. She loves it since it's so lightweight and it's been faultless so far. About the only possible issue I could see would be wear if you're constantly dragging over rough concrete. Bill
