Pads separating from backing while compounding with DA polisher.

Ok, sounds like I just need to be conscious of keeping the heat low. How long should I work a square? I am probably overdoing it. - Is the vehicle in the shade or sun? Sun, but I worked on cloudy days. Car is black, though, so still kinda hot. - What model of backing plate to you have? Astro...

Pads separating from backing while compounding with DA polisher.

I haven't even completed the hood yet. It's pretty large. I've gone through two pads with the same problem. I figured I should work out what I'm doing wrong before it gets really expensive.

Pads separating from backing while compounding with DA polisher.

I've been attempting to compound my Ranchero with the DA. My first experience with one. And after about three or four squares, my foam pad separates from the hook and loop backing. I've watched Mike's vids and applying pressure at what feels like 10-15lbs including the weight of the polisher...

00 Grand Prix GTP. Start With Discolored Wheels, Then On to the Paint.

Ok, I made an introductory post at grandprixforums.net. Guess I'll take the mechanical questions over there. I'm missing the drivers side GTP badge. Trying to decide whether to replace it or de-badge.

Not sure I want to go through several motors. That doesn't sound good.

00 Grand Prix GTP. Start With Discolored Wheels, Then On to the Paint.

Well, I guess the case of the discolored wheels is solved. My intention was to be rid of the gold stripe and emblems, but now I wonder if I should embrace the gold. Black/gold is not really my thing, but it is what it is. I'll have to think on that one.

00 Grand Prix GTP. Start With Discolored Wheels, Then On to the Paint.

Well, I'll be darned. They don't look gold enough to be intentional.

00 Grand Prix GTP. Start With Discolored Wheels, Then On to the Paint.

I just got a 2000 Grand Prix GTP a few weeks ago. Mid-life crisis on a budget. The paint is in decent shape, so, I'll get to that later. What bothers me the most right now is that the wheels are darkened and have a tinge of gold/coppery color to them. I want to get them bright and polished...

So, I've got the black 1979 Black Ranchero...

Hello, I'm Clay. I'm new here. So, I've had this Ol' black 1979 Ford Ranchero sitting around here for about 10 years, and I decided to make that thing look better. Naturally, I grabbed some rubbing compound and went at it...in a small area. I was not happy with the results, so I've been...
