Opinion wanted: would you bother getting this repainted?

Thanks! If that's the case, is it worth having a professional at least look at it and ask if s/he can do better?

Opinion wanted: would you bother getting this repainted?

Thanks for the really detailed response. Is it for sure the flop? They gave me a bottle of touch-up paint, which is from the same batch of paint they mixed, and the color itself seems too green, even in the bottle. Luckily, the affected area is sort of on its own complicated surface, so I...

Opinion wanted: would you bother getting this repainted?

Hi all, I got the buttress section of rear quarter panel of my BRZ repainted a couple of months ago (I struck through paint while compounding). Overall, I am feeling pretty meh with the repaint. The entire passenger side sail + quarter + rocker panel (which are connected) were re-cleared...

Clearcoat edge line from new paint job

Yeah, and they put on 3 or 4 miles on the car too (they were under the impression that the BRZ is a fast car I am sure, which is unfortunately not true). Sure, they could have been testing whether the window refit or the bumper being put back on were done well, but perhaps they just took my car...

Clearcoat edge line from new paint job

So I took it back and was treated quite poorly. The manager didn't seem to know what I was trying to get across and said that he didn't see the issue. The painter came and spent twenty minutes wet sanding and hand compounding out the ridge. The area is a lot cleaner now (there was tape glue...

Clearcoat edge line from new paint job

Thanks, let's see what they say then. I am just afraid they will suggest a dumb workaround instead of properly reclearing the whole panel.

Clearcoat edge line from new paint job

Thanks, I will go in on Monday and ask them what they can do for me. I am expecting an uphill battle, though. What recourse do I have if they don't honor it and redo the clearcoat? (they may claim the hard line it as normal/unavoidable) I didn't go through the insurance on this, so I don't...

Clearcoat edge line from new paint job

Thanks for the advice. Is the only way to get it right to completely reclear the whole panel? I am happy with how everything else turned out... Is it possible to spot repair this lip in a way that would prevent future flaking? I don't mind too much how it looks because it's not really visible at...

Uhh, so I should bring it back? Job is not a week old.

Clearcoat edge line from new paint job

Hi all! You may remember me as the moron who hand compounded through his blue BRZ’s clearcoat. Long story short: I got the rear quarter resprayed (color blended, whole quarter panel plus sail panel plus rocker recleared) They did a good job with the clearcoat texture and the color match. i...

Taking care of new paint; did my body shop wax it?0

Hi Mike, I just got my 1-month old car back from the body shop. I had a detailing mishap and had to have color blended out on the rear quarter panel and the entire rear 1/4 panel + sail panel + rocker panel recleared. I am fairly happy with the job, the match is quite good and I don’t think...

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

One more update for anyone who is interested: Got my BRZ back from the shop :) Post repaint - Album on Imgur Happy with the match! They were able to get rid of a couple of conspicuous dust specks. The line where the the new clear ends is visible in the door jamb though. They did some work to...

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Thanks, I have heard the blue is a lot easier than white (mine is a pearl though, so I am hoping it turns out well.) Why didn't you opt to get the doors blended?

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Thanks! Just wondering, for a $800 job. Is it reasonable for the orange peel to be somewhat matched to the factory amount of orange peel? I am not looking for 100% restoration, but it would be nice if the difference in texture at least doesn't jump out.

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Thanks! It's fairly common for body shops to have to denib after the clear is applied and hardened somewhat, yes? The other side of my friend's Mazda 3 was also not in that great of a condition (unrelated to the accident and hence not covered by insurance.) Hopefully seeing how new the rest of...

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Just a little update for anyone who is interested: I went to 4 or 5 body shops in the area. Quotes were somewhat comparable, from 600 to 1000. One shop wanted to blend into the trunk, the rest thought it would be fine without blending (although it is a tri-coat blue). The area is getting...

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

That seems like it could easily be the better part of 1000 USD. Oh boy :( This was probably the worst panel I could have damaged... Look at how massive it is: YouTube

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Although this particular panel doesn't have any clear bra on, several neighboring panels do, namely the edge of the passenger door, bottom half of the rear bumper. Do these need to be removed for a proper blend? Or can someone theoretically do a good job without blending? This is World Rally...

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Thanks, you all are being really nice. This is my dream car and I can't believe I made such a dumb mistake one month into ownership. Will the entire quarter panel have to be redone? (that extends from the A Pillar all the way to the trunk/bumper)

Scared that I may have burnt through clear coat compounding by hand

Be that as it may, I did end up burning through the clear coat trying to get rid of the yellow spot. So it's on me to fix... Would you recommend taking it to the auto collision center associated with a Subaru dealership?
