Ceramic for northern climates + salt roads

Fair point - GTechniq specifically mentions not to use Tax X on their coatings, so I always stayed away from it... That being said, I guess I have nothing to lose by trying... I will order some next time I buy product...

Ceramic for northern climates + salt roads

Thanks for all the responses guys Responses to some questions: I wash the vehicle weekly (I'll admit sometimes it goes to every 2 weeks during the winter, but still try for weekly). Every wash is with 2 capfuls of CarPro Reset in a small-ish amount of water (2 bucket method with grit guards)...

Ceramic for northern climates + salt roads

I Iron-X before and after winter. Does not seem to change anything with regards to water performance on the coating.

Ceramic for northern climates + salt roads

Thanks! Yes, cars were always clayed, Iron-X'd, corrected and then panel wiped before application.

Ceramic for northern climates + salt roads

Hi guys, I am a hobbiest and have ceramic coated 3 of my own cars in the past. All with GTechniq CSL+EXOv4. I have been disappointed with the longevity and performance (water beading, self cleaning, etc.) on lower vertical panels after a short time. Horizontal and above the mid-door still has...

Question for the pros. How do you "get rid" of a customer?

Well at least in that case you don't have to worry about a tip anymore since the extra part is no longer discretionary. Yes, you will make the same as when he did tip, but as you said he didn't always tip so on average you will collect more. It may also be what he needs to leave on his own...

    GTechniq CSL + C2V3 vs CSL + EXO + C2V3 - EXO worth it?

Isn't Acetone incredibly dangerous on clear coat? Not sure if I am comfortable as I know Acetone will eat clearcoat if exposed to it in sufficient quantities for a bit of time. Makes me a bit nervous... I don't think CarPro Eraser or Gtechniq Panel Wipe have any acetone content. I certainly do...

    GTechniq CSL + C2V3 vs CSL + EXO + C2V3 - EXO worth it?

Another question for you guys - my new vehicle is arriving soon and I have already purchased bottles of CSL and EXOv4. I want to be sure to do it right this time. I forgot to order Gtechniq panel wipes during my last product order. Do you guys think I should be getting this dedicated product...

Salty roads leading to rust specks on freshly ceramic coated car... Normal?

Guys, re-awakening this thread. Does anyone have any experience with CarPro Multi-X and more specifically it's level of safety for use on a ceramic coated car? I have been looking for a strong but safe APC and I like CarPro stuff generally. Heard all good things and reviews seem great, but...

    Newbie - Advice needed

Tip : The biggest enemy of detailing is swirl marks. Avoiding them requires extra attention and additional details when washing. The two-bucket method would be a good place to start (2x 5 gallon pails, each with a grit guard at the bottom). One is used to rinse your wash mitt (rub it against...

    Most durable ceramic coating?

I am located in Atlantic Canada - so much worse winter road conditions than Toronto and much more road salt, etc. I did a CSL application on my brand new Volvo XC90 in December. I've noticed the water beading performance on the lower panels is not great compared to the hood, above the belt...

Salty roads leading to rust specks on freshly ceramic coated car... Normal?

Ordered CSL and EXOv4 for my next ride when it shows up in May. It was mentioned above that Opti mineral deposit remover could be safely used on a coating as it's acidic instead of an alkaline to chemically remove road grime and other contaminants? Does everybody agree with this assessment...

    GTechniq CSL + C2V3 vs CSL + EXO + C2V3 - EXO worth it?

Guys - I did a full wash with Reset last night (wow that stuff works well, my first time using it!). Also did a full Iron-X decontamination with some heavy elbow grease (using a soft wax applicator as to not marr the surface) to take off the orange iron spots and other stuck on contaminants. I...

Affordable hand held light for finding coating high spots?

Great - thanks! That looks promising. It's a bit more than I was looking to spend (especially delivered in Canada) but looks very promising. I love Griot's garage products.

Affordable hand held light for finding coating high spots?

Hi all, I have 2 white cars - have already coated one and only ended up with 1 small high spot that I missed. I would like better lighting for when I apply to my second vehicle this spring. What is an affordable light for a hobbyist that only does his own vehicles? I do not want to spend the...

    GTechniq CSL + C2V3 vs CSL + EXO + C2V3 - EXO worth it?

Unfortunately I ordered a 500ml bottle of C2V3 last week. Will give it a try - won't be the last time I waste $40 on something lol. I will try to revive the coating with Iron-X, APC and few baths in CarPro Reset. Is there something else I should be using to decontaminate? I know Tar-X is not...

    GTechniq CSL + C2V3 vs CSL + EXO + C2V3 - EXO worth it?

Thank you for all the replies! I have always clayed and have never seen any marring. Perhaps it's because all my cars are white and it's not visible or that I use very mild clay with very little pressure and lots of lubricant. Either way, I won't risk it! Thanks for confirming that. I also...

    GTechniq CSL + C2V3 vs CSL + EXO + C2V3 - EXO worth it?

Hi all, I am hobbyist for my own vehicles and love to learn from other's experiences. I recently coated my brand new XC90 (white pearl) with CSL only. Application was done in a heated garage in December and was subsequently exposed to harsh Atlantic Canadian roads. Water behavior on lower...

Salty roads leading to rust specks on freshly ceramic coated car... Normal?

Looks great! For that much grime I would probably pressure wash it off first though since my garage is 26 x 26 with a 13 foot ceiling height (heated with 2 floor drains) so I can comfortably pressure wash indoors during winter. Looks very nice in that final pic though. I think I will pickup some...

Salty roads leading to rust specks on freshly ceramic coated car... Normal?

Yeah, Chemical Guys site (in North America, anyway) has Citrus Wash Clear as CWS303 while mine is CWS302, which I can't find on chem guys website. The one on the Chem Guys website (303) has the words hydrophobic on it and is a different label and description. It's like the kep the same name...
