When I got into this business over 40 years ago one of the things that I dreaded most was removing baked in splattered bugs on the front of vehicles that had been on a road trip.
There would literally be HUNDREDS of dead bugs (the smell would gag me) no matter which direction of the country that they came from.

Nowadays when I encounter a car returning from a road trip I'm lucky to find a dozen or so dead bugs.

Can anyone explain to me what has changed??

And you’ve lived in the same area the whole time? I’ve always heard bug guts are plentiful in Florida or somewhere back east..

What’s your preferred method these days?

As far as your question, I dunno, but something must’ve changed.

Yes. I've been right here. I haven't moved but the bugs have (or died).
No matter which direction you drive your going to find lots of farm land and dark nights. In the past that equals lots of bugs on your windshield if you drive during the evening

I'm not a 100% certain what has happened either, but have my suspension.
A lady was talking with me last year about how she never sees frogs anymore. I looked around her perfectly manicured yard (thr whole neighborhood actually) and told her maybe it's the pesticides that they are spraying. She told me that it couldn't be that because her pest control guy told her the stuff he sprays only kills the bad bugs so I guess we can eliminate that crazy thought

Happy resurrection day Ric 🙏

Take a drive through Ohio farm country. You will be returned to the days of hundreds of dead bugs on your front end.

Good deal. This makes me feel better.

Happy Resurrection day BLM 🙏

I still have a 2pk of bug gut sponges that I’ve never had to use… I have tried some though, they’re sort of impressive based on how soft they kinda get once they soak in the car soap for a few minutes and they work good.

Driving home on the back roads last night, I encountered a lot of bugs. Their bodies have a low pH and their acidic nature leave enzymes behind that will eat through clear coat. Not on MY clear coat. Poorboys Bug Squash and Griots Bug Barricade took care of that.
No shortage of bugs on a warm day here in New England.

As someone who grew up in Ohio Amosh country I will say the bugs aren't what they used to be. For better or worse.

I have also witnessed a HUGE decline in the bat population. They go hand in hand. Loss of environment? Climate change? It's one or the other. Something has changed.

Bees are also disapearing 🐝
A guy that I walk with occasionally makes honey.
He reports finding replacement Bees is becoming somewhat difficult.
I'm sure it's nothing...

I’m in SE MI and I get a shit ton of bugs on my vehicles. Lots of bats here too. I’m off a dirt road with lots of farms around me.

Edit: seasonal thing, mostly May through end of October.

I think timing and the previous winter conditions have a lot to do with it.

Last year, after having multiple really mild winters, the bugs we'd encounter on a road trip across Missouri and into northern Oklahoma were the worst we've ever seen in that area and it started in March! This year after having a more typical winter in the area, the bug population may be a bit lower, but it's also coming out later due to the cool wet conditions we're seeing. They are still there though, I had plenty of bug splatter on a trip a couple weeks ago. I fully expect another buggy summer.

Just had a new customer call. Her main concern is that the front of her car is covered in bugs 🐛
The irony is ironic 👽✌️

You jinxed it. Now get to work! Lol.

I was already at work when she called 😉

This lady wanted me to come today (of course she did). When she asked what I charged (half of what most of my peers charge) she said:
" thats more than i was hoping to spend. All I really need are the bugs removed...I can do the rest...."

I've gotten so much better at responding to calls like this 😇
