I have this style buffer/polisher and it is a 10" model. I got it at Christmas several years ago in one of those exchange games. I've never used it, but am really wanting to give it a go. I bought a foam bonnet to use for the paint cleaner, and microfiber bonnets for the paint polish and the wax. I will be using microfiber towels to remove the products. I read somewhere at one time to put on the paint cleaner and the polisher on the bonnet at the same time, but that doesn't make sense to me why you would do that. Obviously with the size it will limit the usable area to large flat panels, but can anyone give me any advice on using this type of machine. I want to get something better eventually, but right now this is what I have to work with besides using my two hands. I am a beginner at this so any advice/help is much appreciated. The products I am using are the megs step system that has Step 1: Paint cleaner Step 2: Paint Polisher and for the wax I am using Megs NXT. I will be claying the paint after washing using Megs claybar and spray detailer.

By the way I will be using this on my fiancees 2003 Ford Escape with dark green paint to test it before I use it on my Z that you see as my avatar.

You would be better off just working with your hands or just using the machine to apply wax

I have one i got as a Christmas gift too. Nerve used it.

I disagree with the others. I have a 10 inch Craftsman orbital that until I bought a 6 inch polisher, I used all the time with great results. I will never wax by hand after using these. This machine will work great with the products you mentioned.

they will work very little, wit hthe pressure required it wont rotate, sure might correct a tiny bit with alot of time, all in all best left on the shelf your hand will get more correction, i have used one i know...id rather use a cheap rotary with a good backing plate and pads vs one of those. save up and get a real dual action polisher.

I'm all about the cheap rotary. Harbor freight here. Works great once you learn to compensate for the loss in power when you apply pressure. Used an old model PC for quite some time, it doesn't compare..

Then why did you buy a 6" polisher?

Hopefully after our move is over and the wedding is over in Oct. I can get me a good polisher/buffer.
