i have a detail coming up this weekend on this '67 caddy... few swirls on the hood and trunk of the car and i was just wondering if anyone has a few suggestions on products to use... i was going to do a two stage correction with Meg's 105 w/ wool pad due to some severe swirls, down the aggressiveness of the pad to a yellow cutting pad w/ megs 105 and then finish off with meg's 205 w/ tangerine pad

Does this Cadillac have the original single stage paint or has it been repainted at some point in life with a basecoat/clearcoat finish?

Do you know or have you tested it?

How to Test for Single Stage or Clear Coat Paint

Do you see oxidation or just swirls.

Swirls only is a sign of basecoat/clearcoat paint. Oxidation plus swirls would be a sign of single stage paint.

Do you have a picture?

Very cool car to get to buff out and very large car too. Be sure to have a lot of pads on hand for the correction step.

i have not tested the paint but lucky for me i work at a place that sells precision instruments so i have the defelsko thickness gauges available to me at all time... I know that the car has been re-painted.. i see no oxidation just swirls, im trying to get the guy to send me a few pictures, when he does i will be sure to post them, thank you mike i appreciate the help and the quick answer

If it's a base/clear then the M105 is a time-proven compound for removing swirls and should be more than enough to tackle this car.

Don't know how involved you want to get with this project but if you do plan on taking before and after pictures and the paint is dark or black in color, be sure to get great "before" pictures.

Once the buffing is done you can never go back in time and get the before pictures. You can always get after shots, it's the before shots that hold all the value.

The power in the after shots is created in the before shots

Okay so i remember Mike asking me to post up some pics of this caddy detail... the reason why i didnt post close up pics of the actual paint damage is because this type of damage was beyond my fixing... After going over the car w/ Meg's 105 w/ a wool pad, meg's 205 w/ yellow pad than tangerine pad all the swirls were completely gone BUT that major defects that i orginally thought were swirls were not gone, upon closer inspection i deemed that the car (when repainted) was not sanded properly, or wasnt properly buffed down after sanding bc all the paint damage was under the clearcoat... all the pics ive tried to take didnt show the damage at all so instead i ended up posting the finished hood after all the swirl removal

Please post regular 80x800 pics. Thumbnails don't show the detail.

It's a 1968 Eldo not 67 or its a 67 with 68 fender lamps. Where are you located?

it's a 67' but the owner got into an accident about a year after he bought the car and had the front end change to the '68 because he liked that style better, im located in long island new york
