The weather here in Houston hasn't been too horrible lately so I spent the weekend giving my newly acquired 1993 Miata some much needed TLC.

The car has 49k original miles and is mechanically flawless, but judging from the swirls, scratches, and oxidation, the paint wasn't taken care of very well. After experimenting with a few glaze and pad combos, I spent a day with my polisher to bring back the gloss and eliminate a majority of the surface defects. I didn't drive myself crazy trying to remove every single swirl and scratch since paint preservation was my top priority. After all that I cleaned up the interior and engine compartment (along with a few tucks and deletes) to tidy things up.

Well that's how last weekend went for me. I'm pretty happy with this pickup. It runs awesome, handles great, and looks (and smells) like a brand new car. I just wish I had more space in my garage to park all 3 of my cars haha.

I am just speechless the results are excellent you can tell you had fun weekend

One more speechless, what a wonderful work you've done there!

Thanks for sharing,

Kind Regards.

1991 owner here! Although mine is a repaint, how did you correct the mirrors and finish panel? My mirrors stay faded and aren't coming back and the finish panels are really think and crack easily.

Great work! Your is even cleaner than mine (no time for my own car, only customers)

Great work! :xyxthumbs:

I really like how you told a story with your pics, rather than too many words. :)

A '93 with under 50k! What a great find! You've done a terrific service to the Mazda community. That's a great weekend right there.

Talk about attention to detail?!? Great job. How long did the whole job take?

I used a 4" white Lake Country pad at speed 4 for the mirrors and hand polished them from the back where my polisher doesn't fit. Same story for the rear finish panel and the bumpers. First gen Miatas just seem to fade around those spots. I did the best I could but didn't want to remove too much paint. As long as the overall condition of the car is good, I'm happy.

If yours has been repainted with clear, you should be able to use a traditional polish instead of a glaze like I did.

3 days of me being lazy and taking breaks haha.

Looks great! I like your taste in cars. What combo did you find gave good correction on the larger panels? I have one of the same vintage.

Thank you everybody for the kind words.

I experimented with white and orange Lake Country foam pads and some 3M, Wolfgang, Meguiar's and Chemical Guy's glazes. They yielded great results, but I just wanted to test them all to see how they performed.

I received a bottle of Chemical Guy's EZ Creme Glaze for free last year so I decided to put it to use on the rest of the car.

It yielded great results, was very easy to use, and easy to wipe off. Finishes very nicely on single stage paint. I've heard better things about their Glossworks Glaze, but I was more than happy with how the EZ Creme Glaze performed.

Why would you get rid of the elegant wood grain trim? Jk lol looks great now!
