So after asking for so much help and doing lots of re-search I have finally semi completed my 1995 960-Volvo. Poor thing has never really been “properly” detailed. Before I joined this place I thought I knew how to detail a vehicle but I quickly learned that what I had done in the past was all wrong….well story short, thanks to all of you guys here I’ve learned to detail properly and I’m still learning.

Washed

I first washed the car using Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo, this stuff works well. No complaints here.

Clayed

Clayed the entire vehicle using Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay and Lube, I think I over did it with the Lube though because I went through an entire 473mL bottle. Better be safe then sorry. I was really happy with the Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay, it grabbed a bunch of contaminants from the paint. Keep in mind that I had never clayed the vehicle.

Polish (Orange Edge 2K pad with XMT #3)

First time ever using any kind of polish and at first I was really worried as to how this was going to turn out. One pass with this stuff and it removed 90% of the scratches/swirls. Very pleased with XMT. The paint had some really bad scratches that were not removed completely but you can hardly see them.

Polish (Blue Edge 2K pad with XMT #1)

This step removed the small scratches that in some areas were still visible. The Blue pad in the Edge 2K system is great, very versatile and you can use it for almost anything. Can’t say enough about the Edge 2K system, very pleased with the pads. NOTE: Do not apply to much pressure to the pads, as I learned very quickly that I was applying way to much pressure and I caused so much stress on the pad that I ruined one side of the blue pad.

Glaze (applied by hand XMT finishing Glaze)

When I first started to apply the Glaze I was going way to think, no need to apply so thick nice and thin is much better. I applied it by hand because I personally like feeling every curve, corner of the vehicle getting covered. This stuff not only smells good but it makes the paint look wet and gives it nice depth. Someone best described the Glaze the following way “after scrubbing the paint so much the Glaze is like putting lotion on it”. That statement is so true…wish I could remember who said it though.

Wax (one coat applied/removed by hand with Paste Souveran)

This wax is amazing, I’ve never used it till now and let me tell you it gives such a nice depth and makes the paint look so wet. Well worth the money if you ask me. I was a big fan of Mothers waxes but after using this Souveran I’ll never go back. The smell it has is really good too, the entire garage smelled of this stuff. As I was leaving the garage my neighbor was passing by and cot the smell and wanted to know what I had in the garage. When he smelled the wax he said “..why are you putting in your car, get some bread and spread it..” hahahaha. Neighbor has a red Mercedes SLK, he wants me to detail it for him and to put a few coats of Souveran on it. Oh yea, for removing I used the blue indigo towels (I think that’s what they are called, I thought they were “miracle” towels but I think that was just me being amazed by them lol) and these towels are really nice. Although, I didn’t try my Jr towel.

Tires (Meguiers Gold Class Endurance)

I’m quite pleased with how this stuff leaves the tires, what I’m really pleased with that it doesn’t flick the gel all over the car. Then again, this vehicle spends majority of it’s time in the garage, maybe once a month I take it out for a drive. I had to charge the battery to take it for a drive today.

Okay now for the pictures, please remember that I have never used a PC nor any polishing/glaze before so the before pictures are a little scary.

Oh..one more thing, since I got over my fear of using the PC I’ve ordered a rotary. I should be receiving my Metabo within a few days. This place is not only addicting but it exponentially expands your potential. I’ll first practice with the rotary on my poor old Jeep, it has so much rust I’m sure some burnt paint marks won’t hurt it. I’ll post pictures of the Jeep later.

:applause: I can't believe you said you were a first timer !! Thats what I'm talking about, very nice turnaround. The wetness of that volvo should up the value $1500!!! You are very detailed in your write up as well, and thanks for sharing the whole process. You should get many kudos for this one!!

Great job! That Volvo was in rough shape. You really turned it around.

Thank you for finally showing us!!

Thank you all for the kind words, I had so much fun detailing my Volvo time just flew. Since this was my first time ever using any kind of polish I took my time. I harassed lots of members here and I freaked out a few times hahahaha. The weather here in Calgary changes quite often so I could only work a bit at a time, the washing was okay once I started hauling warm water from the house. Before that I was freezing my fingers off. My garage isn't insulated, I'll be doing that this summer. So all together I would say it took me about two weeks to complete the Volvo.

The owner (my wife) is very pleased with the Volvo, and said that she would let me clean it again any time lol...she was quite impressed. She told me that it was money well spent...beneath her breath...well I had to pry those words out of her mouth but eventually they came out.

Yup, I'm moving on to a rotary. I can't wait to get it and start practicing. As you can see the weather is starting to get better so I'll have plenty of time outside to practice on the Jeep.

Once again a big thank you to Sparkie, Floridanative, Lauren, Justin, Meghan...oh I can't name them all EVERYONE in helped me out even though they didn't know it. I spend lots of time re-searching finding out what is the best method and all thanks to Autogeek and members.

Awesome job and very nice write-up, Nica!! Big turnaround on that Volvo!! :applause:Your wife should be very pleased!!
Did the neighbors give you strange looks while you were taking all those pictures? Mine do. And they think I'm nuts, washing my cars every weekend!!?? Go figure!!

Oh yea, neighbors were pocking there heads out the window. A buddy of mine was passing by and yelled out his window..."why don't you marry the thing"...hahahaha.

Okay with me though, I'm very pleased with the vehicle and so is the wife.

Thank you for the kind words

Nica, what a brilliant job you did. The before pictures are scary! I was looking at them and thinking there is no way he is going to turn this bad boy around. But you sure did turn it around! It looks awesome! I love the color.

How many hours did it take you? Actually working time I mean. Whatever it was it was worth the effort you did.

Thanks for posting your process and pictures!
:applause:

Great turnaround Nica, that Volvo is a BIG car to detail.

Looks wet and shiny.

My brother Carlos, you have turned that car around. The paint is so so wet. You have done a perfect detail. Paint is polished to perfection. Awesome work my friend!:applause: Sorry so late posting, I just got back this week and had limit time to look at the posts I'd missed. I've just seen this today.
What did you used to get the tar off?
