Considering this is only my second vehicle for a paint correction, I really wanted to try to be patient and give it the TLC that it needed. This is a coworkers vehicle and he has seen the work I did to my wife's TBSS, so he was more than confident with my skills/enthusiasm to complete his baby. Without going too much into the story, the vehicle was backed into on the driver side rear quarter panel. Repaired by a local auto body chain and Randy, my coworker, requested the body shop guys give it a once over on the whole vehicle to "Shine it up", these were the words he gave them. I swiftly explained to him that I thought he would regret it, but for the $20 the rotary operated requested, it's no money out of his pocket...right? Well, I knew better.
I couldn't get a lot of great pictures, he dropped it off that morning and requested it back the same evening. Fortunately for me, I told him I would drop it off the following morning on the way to church...it still didn't give me the time I really wanted with it.
Swirls, holograms, RIDS, this thing had it all. Upon receiving it, Randy does try his best to keep it clean and shining.
Process:
CG Citrus Wash/Gloss to remove LSP
Clay
Meg MF D300 (plus a drop of M105)
CG Pro Polish on Meg W9006 pad
CG BlackLight + CG Hybrid V7
Cg Signature Series Wheel cleaner
First off, the wheels. Tried a few new products with this one, CG Signature Series Wheel Cleaner. I feel it did well, had to get some APC on the barrels. They still didn't come clean, but the prior owner certainly did not take care of them. They definitely needed a wheel removal detail, but Randy requested I did not take them off.
A few showing the condition of the paint. The entire vehicle was like this, with the hood/deck lid being the worst for holograms.
Onto the test spot. I had originally planned on going with the Meg's MF system, but trying out a few things out if necessary.
MF D300 didn't quite cut the holograms like I wanted.
But D300 + a drop of M105 sure did.
Now that I had an action plan, my head was down and I was sweating. The D300+M105 finished down A LOT better than I had ever imagined. Only 1/2 of the car was polished with CG Pro Polish. Why only 1/2 you ask? Because I was extremely disappointed in it. Dusted a lot, a ridiculous amount for a finishing polish in my opinion, and when pushed out into the sun I noticed a few marring sections. This made me very unhappy with the product, good thing it was free I guess. When I get an afternoon with the car I'll be going over it all again with M205.
Here are the final results after LSP was applied. No high noon or sun shots, I was about to get in it and deliver it to the customer. After the M205 is done, I will be taking some good photos of it.
Thanks for looking!!!
