This is a 2001 Chevy Venture. It has been driven and neglected by probably 10 different people over the last 13 years that we have owned it. It’s gone through smokers, children, slobs, and has even been used as a parts transport workhorse in dire situations. It has never had floor mats has really only been washed a handful of times and has definitely never had a coat of wax applied. The interior smelled like mold due to the fact the rear windows were left open for about 3 months last spring.

I took this car on so I could practice for upcoming spring and summer, also known as detailing season.
I spent a total of 3 ½ hours on this car. I did a complete Interior detail, and a 1-step on the exterior, as well as rain X on the windows and Klasse AIO on the interior windows.

Products Used:

Interior:
Ridgid 8 HP Wet/Dry Vacuum
Bissell Little Green ProHeat
ODOBAN (as an extractor detergent)
Meguiars APC+ 10:1
Meguiars Water Based Dressing 1:1
ZEP FAST 505 (for grease stains)
Klasse AIO (for sealing glass)
Stoner Invisible Glass

Exterior:
2 Bucket Wash with ONR, grout sponge and Grit Guards
Griots Garage tire shine
Rain-X rain repellant
Rain-X Window Scrub (applied by PC with Griots Garage Glass Pads)
Stoner invisible glass with Rain Repellant
IRON-X
Clay Magic Blue Clay (for windows and Paint)
Optimum No rinse wash and wax
Meguiars D151 (applied by Flex 4301 and LC foamed wool pads)
Meguiars Ultimate Spray Wax (as a final wipedown)

Before:

Iron-x

After the wash

Polished (I couldn’t get many before/after pictures due to the color)

After 1-Step

Thanks For Looking!

Those carpets are still nasty. I get vans like these to do pretty frequently and the crud and dirt just keeps coming out of the carpets extraction after extraction. A few cans of SEM gray carpet dye would really make a big difference in that one.

This car is just a utility vehicle incase someone has nothing else to drive, its been sitting for 6 months. It has 206000 miles on it, but ill look into the carpet die for a later project.

I extracted until the water was coming back clean.

Nice work!

Thanks

Great job! Sometimes you get to the point on bad carpets where the dirt is removed but the staining just won't budge.

I think what you see with hose front carpets isn't necesarily staining but the natural color of the carpet fibers because the original dye has been ground off and chemically stripped off by scrubbing with different cleaners etc.

On old high mileage clunkers like that I've simply sprayed down and brushed in light gray spray paint to create a like new look.

It actually works rather well believe it or not.

Yeah good vehicle to practice on.

Thank you! My Family has plenty more where that came from, so Ill be busy for awhile.

Yeah, That's Where I believe I was at. I tried my best at it, infact, I spent 45minutes on that section alone. Im blaming it on the nature of my families business. We are constantly walking in grease and oil, and even when you think you're not, the oil is in the air and falls to the ground, so its on your shoes anyway.

Ill have to try it. never really considered dying carpet however.

Quite the change all things considered. Only 3.5 hours to do all that? You must be The Flash..............

Lol, funny you should mention that. My brother got married over the weekend, and is a huge comic nerd. So he asked his brothers and brother-in-laws to wear a super hero shirt under their clothes and i chose to be flash

At my shop, from time to time I get super high mileage rusty, crusty old wheelchair ramp vans that my shop landlord takes as trade ins. He pays next to nothing for these units and wishes to invest as little as possible into them, however they do need to be mechanically recon'd so they're safe driving vehicles.

I do whatever it takes to make them look good to go out on the lot as affordable wheelchair ramp vans for financially challenged families in need of a handicap accessible van at a low price.

It is nice that you have access to plenty of practice vehicles to hone your skills on after all, that is how one gets great at this stuff.

Unlike your Chevy Venture, which is just a utility vehicle that's likely going to continue to serve whatever needs where other vehicles can't get all messed up, the ones I work on (that do look similar or worse at times) have to be presentable enough to sit on the lot for sale.

There are a lot of really cheap rattle can solutions for not just ratty old carpets but lots of rust issues under and inside these vans. There is actually a market for very low budget recons on very high mileage beaters everywhere you go. It can still be money in the bank, especially for a mobile detailer if he sees these opportunities and chooses to seize upon them.

Wasn't trying to be a "Negative Nelly" or bust your chops about the carpets in your utility van, but rather share a cheap and rather effective method of making the van look a lot better. You did a nice transformation on the rest of the van without investing much time in it, which is the name of the game in my book.

Even those driving a high mileage utility vehicle like that could feel better seeing new looking carpets day in and day out, even if they were cheated with rattle can paint once or twice a year.

Welcome to the site, and as you get those "other vehicles" to practice on, I hope you'll continue to post your progress of the practice sessions.

No need to apologize, I dont mind the constructive criticism. I prefer it actually. Its only going to make me better.

Well done! You accomplished a lot in 3.5 hours.

Thank You! I was Moving rather quickly if i do say so myself.
