We got to work around 8:40 Sunday night. We started with a foam bath with a combo of CG Citrus Wash and Gloss and Dawn dish soap to degerase the paint and strip it of any remaining product. Then we got started with the interior. We cleaned the seats with Wolfgang leather cleaner and a small brush, and conditioned them with CG Leather conditioner. We treated the carpet with Folex and a Bissel Shop Vac, then dressed all plastics with V.R.P Anti-Static Dressing. We opened up the doors and trunk sills and cleaned them up with IPA and CG Quik Detailer. We lint rolled the trunk area since vaccuming proved useless. We finished around 11:30 on Sunday.
Monday we got started around 11 AM, starting with a rinse. We clayed the car with Pinnacle Medium clay and CG Quik Detailer. This car was filthy with hidden contaminants, even the windows. Both clay pieces were thrown away afterwards. Matt got started on the engine bay with VRP again, and I got started with the taping. We started paint work around 2 PM. I started off with M105 on a LC Cyan pad, with good results. The driver's side, however, displayed some very very deep random indivdual scratches. So just on a test spot, I tried XMT 360 and stepped the Griot's DA to speed 6 from 5.5. Almost immediately, the cyan pad explodes. Terrible news. I had JUST started the car. The only pad I had left was a LC Orange pad, which was much, much softer. So I stepped the whole process up to XMT 360 since I had lost a lot of my cutting power. After about 3 passes, I used my now very soft orange pad to also apply M205, which finished out nicely. I then rolled it out for a cleansing wash, at which point I addressed the wheels with CG Grime Reaper and a Daytona brush. I hit the exhaust with #00 steel wool and Nevr-Dull. I dried the car with a Cobra Guzzler. Using a LC Crimson pad, I applied two coats of CG accrylic glaze, two coats of JetSeal 109, and topped it off with a coat of Butterwet Wax by hand. I treated the windows with Stoners and Rain-X, and called it a day right as Craig pulled in at about 8:50.
All in all, I nearly killed myself on this car, but it was well worth the work. Unfortunately, I didn't get nearly as many after pics as I had wanted, because I was trying so hard to get the car done by a reasonable hour, but be sure to take a look at this wonderful Interlagos Blue Z4M at the next Cars and Coffee
