Hello,

A friend of mine inherited this car from a cousin. He had never washed it from his recollection. I do not doubt it. He also apparently drove as if he was a rally driver, because every panel had damage or scratches. On top of that the car was also keyed. Given the fact how neglected this car had been, I was amazed it had not experienced clear coat failure. The paint was covered in mold spots, trim was faded and stained, overall, it was a mess.

After IronX did its thing, I took my Nanoskin Autoscrub towel and with McKees 37 clay lube, it made fast work of decontaminating the rest of the paint.

My attack method was Wolfgang Uber Compound with a Lake Country Thin Pro Orange Pad using my Rupes 21. There were so many defects in the paint, I was just hoping to restore some gloss back to the paint.

Once I finished the compound stage. Given the horrendous condition of the paint, and the fact Uber finishes really well, I did not bother to polish. I wiped down with Eraser and then applied McKee's 37 Paint Coating. There simply cannot be an easier coating to apply to a car!

Beading after it rained after I was done:

On the doors, the plastic trim pieces were badly stained. I thought they were goners. I had some Dodo Juice Apc that I used at full strenght, and to my surprise, it brought the trim back to like new condition. Dodo Juice Total Wipe Out All Purpose Cleaner APC I applied some Wolfgang Trim sealant to them after I cleaned them.

For the grill, given its condition, and the fact it has so many small squares, I figured it would be easiest to use something I could spray. My first choice would have been BlackWow with an airbrush. But I dont have an airbrush. So I went to the auto parts store and found some Mothers Back to Black Aerosol. Perfect.

I would say it went back to dark gray. It was a nice improvement, but far from perfect. I guess considering all I did was spray it on, no pre clean even, cant expect miracles. This product smells awesome!

My friend took the car to a bbq over the weekend where the cousin who gave her the car was, and he couldnt beleive it was the same car.

Awesome!! How many times can you use the nanoskin towel before its worn out?

I actually did not touch the wheels and tires. The wheels were new, but I dont think she liked the fact they stuck out so much, so I left them alone.

As far as the Nanoskin towels, pads etc... I have heard 40+ times. I have yet to wear one of them out so I couldnt tell you specifically. But they are far easier than clay, will far outlast clay, and if you drop them, just clean them off, no need to throw them away like clay!

Nice job man.

I'd hate to think what's under the hood and how neglected the maintenance was.

You definitely put some life into that fit. My lil sister has an 09 that I thoughts was hurt, but that one wins. lol
Is it just me or does the roof on these little cars seem like it's a ford econoline?

I did not dare open the hood! It has 155k miles so the previous owner did enough to keep it alive at least that long! and it is a Honda :)

Nice work... (but in my opinion it's still an ugly car)

What an improvement! :xyxthumbs:

I hope she has either a mechanic friend or someone in the family to do a radiator flush and an oil change. Then flush and refill the brake systems. With those three things kept up it should go a long way.

Except for the timing belt (it it has one). if it's a chain then you don't need to worry. Plugs wouldn't hurt it either.
