2008 Honda Pilot Full detail and PBL v2 coating – pic heavy

Hello all,

As my GF is travelling for two weeks she gave me her car to practice on. It received a full detail, top to bottom.

She was ecstatic when she saw the pics and commented that its like a new car.

This will be pic heavy.

Outstanding results and documentation man! You smacked the swirls and dirt out of that SUV bigtime! That actually looks like a pretty sweet ride now with that nice midnight blue paint and the tires all sleek like that. Great job.

What don't you like about the PBL Surface Cleansing Polish? I've only used it to maintain the wife's Uber coated car, when it gets stained. Works well for that.

What don't you like about the PBL Surface Cleansing Polish? I've only used it to maintain the wife's Uber coated car, when it gets stained. Works well for that.

I'm sure nothing wrong with the product. It just did not work for me. I used a dollop as suggested by Mike Phillips and began massaging it into the paint. Worked a tiny section, the size of a 2 by 2 area. When I went to remove the product was dry as bones and was a PITA to wipe off and was caked up and dusting everywhere.

I personally prefer the WG paint prep for this step as it just makes life easier. After all that compounding and polishing, the last thing I want to do is use another polish, which has the potential to stain trim, to clean up....the polish oils lol, if it didnt stain trim and I could use it as prep I would definitely use it again, just that it dried like powder.... Just my personal opinion. I still have it, its full, doubt I will ever touch it again.

Nice turnaround.I saw that you had trouble with pbl.so I decided to use that coating on a 16 black gtr with a 2 step correction.I had zero promblems with it and working conditions were nearly the same in south fla.Kinda weird,and sorry to hear that it didn't work for you.

I have a question from thi picture.. and sorry im a noob to detailing.

From the corrected panel, you see how the reflection is somewhat not crisp? Would this be what we call factory orange peel?

Cuz my car which i corrected looks somewhat like that... would sanding be only option?

Sorry for the question i think my eyes were always open for scratches and swirls but just freshly learning how orange peels look like.

TO be honest, the roof was difficult to work. Not enough light or anything. I have two tiny fluroscent tubes on my ceiling that show nothing. I don't have lights high enough to see the roof. Also, I wanted to play it safe as it was my first coating ever.

Not to mention, the SUV was realllllly high lol. First time for that too.

Lastly, the roof had plenty of ridges which I knew would pose a problem with lack of light plus the height.

Don't rub it in hahaha. I just got unlucky I guess. I feel that the results on the Pilot would have been very different if I had prepped it properly. I am just looking back and I had plenty of product. Also, the smudges with the PBL are very different to the smudges with the Uber coating. The smudges of the PBL are similar to the smudges I had after my first panel with the Uber, where I stopped and called Andre.

My take is, the PBL probably would have been easier in hindsight if prepped properly and ofcourse overly excessive application and wet wipe off. (Same can be said about Uber too, but only 15cc to work with....)

Both coatings would have been different if I applied wet for sure.

How did you go about applying the product if I may ask. Closed garage? winds? A pm would be fine, or here as well. Thanks

Yup that is factory orange peel. I personally would never sand a factory painted car. The paint is super super thin.

haha, this might be a little tough. Her dad washes the cars...and by washes...I mean he sprays the car with water and thats it. No wipe off nothing. My gf is keen to learn rinseless at least so lets how it goes

I'm just happy I could work on this SUV as this is the first time I did such a detailed...er...detail. Never have I worked from top to bottom on any car. This ofcourse being the 4th vehicle I have ever worked on.

Lol. I know exactly what you mean. Honda Pilots can be a bit deceiving.. They're larger than you would think. And I agree, the roof on this vehicle is a major PITA.
