I performed this detail awhile ago on 8/24 and never had time to post it here on AGO. This was my first time using a few new products at the time including Detailer's Pro Series Paint Coating.
For all the audio guys on here, I was listening to Munitio Nines with a FiiO E6 amp on my Zune HD during this detail. :dblthumb2:
Here's the 2011 Toyota Camry upon delivery. The clients primary concerns were smoke odor removal and a durable coating.
Using the "baggie test", the paint felt very gritty, so decontamination was needed.
The interior smelled pretty bad.
The vinyl was surprisingly dry and would require conditioning.
For this detail, I wanted to use the Tornador Air Foamer.
At the time of this detail, we just received the new Auto Finesse Avalanche Snow Foam which I was looking forward to trying for the first time.
FPS view
After a couple minutes of dwell time. This foam shampoo seemed to be on the milder side for cleaning which is great for maintenance washes.
When I want to get tires clean, I usually grab Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner.
Dirty Michelin Man
Brown gunk dissolving off the Michelin Man after 1 spray
Clean Michelin Man (I used Iron X on the wheels)
To decontaminate the paint before claying, I grabbed Auto Finesse Iron Out. It didn't seem as strong as Iron X but the smell is much more friendly. I also really like the sprayer head which disperses a fine mist so you use less product.
Iron Dissolving
I followed up with one of my favorite decontamination tools, the Nanoskin Wash Mitt (medium grade)
After wash and clay, the contaminates have been removed and the paint is already much glossier.
I pulled the car into the garage and inspected the interior. Looks like someone spilled a soda.
This is a female's car, so the usual signs of makeup are everywhere.
A personal pet peeve - dirty compartments.
When I do interiors, the Tornador Black is my best friend. (Filled with Megs APC D101)
Tornador ready to agitate and clean at the same time.
Here are the results after 1 quick pass. It took about 3 passes to get it perfect.
After scrubbing every inch of the interior, I wiped everything down with Pinnacles Leather Conditioner. While the conditioner soaked into the interior, I would turn my attention to the exterior again.
I polished the paint with Menzerna SF4000 and a Rupes LHR 21ES and LHR 15ES for the smaller panels.
The headlights weren't too bad but could be cleaned up.
I used a Flex 3401 with an Optimum MF pad with Menzerna FG400.
All the glass would need polishing.
I used Detailer's High Performance Glass Restorer. I used it with a Griots Garage DA and a LC White Flat Pad.
You can see where I used it. This was my first time using this product. I usually use Pinnacles Water Spot remover and I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. It seems less aggressive and much less messy than Pinnacle's. It turned out to be the perfect product for this application.
One downside is it is a little harder to wipe off than Pinnacle's Water Spot Remover, but easily worth the extra elbow grease.
Gloss restored.
With all the defects removed, the paint is ready for the coating.
The paint was prepped with DP Coating Prep Polish to remove any oils. This will ensure proper bonding for the Paint Coating.
This was my first time using this coating. I applied it by hand with a Gold Finger Pocket and buffed off the high spots with an Arctic White Microfiber Towel.
This coating blew me away. It was incredibly easy to apply. By far the easiest coating I've ever applied and left a very very glossy finish. The paint also felt very slick which is not common for super durable coatings. I was flat out impressed.
Outside shots.
1 Coat of Wolfgang Black Diamond on the tires and a wheel coating that was still in R&D on the rims.
Interior smells good again.
