I was really looking forward to doing this 2011 Cherokee. It is only about 7 or so months old and was going to get Opti Guard coating put on it. Plus the vehicle is pure white, so you know decontamination was going to be a factor. The exciting thing about this is that I wanted a product with the kind of cleaning power of DG 501, but I can't use that as it has polymer sealant in it. So, I was very lucky to be on the receiving end of an experimental paint cleaner product. There are absolutely no plans to bring this to market yet so please don't ask about that. However, for a product to clean paint and leave it squeaky clean so it can be topped with a coating: it's a winner!

First up, here's the vehicle as it arrived. There were the usual brown spots on it that show up on white, even with it being so young. The wash/decon/clay steps took almost 3 hours on it. First up was bug removal.

There was one chip that screamed out for filling as well as a few marks that cut into the paint on the back liftgate:

As you can see, the interior of this one was going to need some work as well.

First up after bug removal (done with DG bug remover and Pinnacle bug sponge) was the wheels/tires/barrels/wells.
The wheels were cleaned with Zep Citrus.
The barrels were first treated with Tarminator as there was a lot of tar buildup in there and then were cleaned with ZC.
The tires were cleaned with Zep Purple.
The wells were cleaned with ZC.

The car was then power washed and I washed it with IronX soap gel on a grout sponge. I was surprised I didn't see more purple and the gel did not do a great job on the brown spots either. Claying was not going to be optional. That was followed up with a foaming of DG 901 and a wash with 901/Dawn. No wax was left after these stages. It was brought inside wet to clay. I used yellow Riccardo to clay it. The brown spots took some effort to remove. The glass was also clayed.

Now the part I was looking forward to. Here is what I was waiting to use:

I used it with a DA and a white LCC pad at first and then tried it with a green B & S pad. The green pad is softer and did just as good a job as the white so I stuck with that. The product was worked in at 5 and I experimented with different working times and removal times. It seems very versatile. It wipes off quite easily. The pad did not get dirty, but the car was new enough I wasn't expecting a lot. It sure did make the white "pop" however! It also worked well on glass and I also did it by hand on the chrome and it really made that jump as well. I really, really like this stuff!! After this stage, the paint was wiped down with Eraser just to make sure I didn't leave any residue at all.
The wheels were hand polished with M105 and a mf and wiped down with Eraser and then sealed with OG. The tires were treated with DP gel. The wells were sprayed with DG tire gloss.
The paint, chrome and all exterior glass were treated to OG. It was allowed to cure several hours.
The interior was vacuumed and the driver's mat was steam cleaned. It was bad where you rest your heel. It came up well though. The leather and plastic were cleaned with OPC at 3:1 and my Auto Glym Interior pad. The front seats were treated to UIGP and the rest of the leather and plastic were treated with PERL. Glass was cleaned with Zep.
The following day the car was wiped down with FK425. I have never tried this over OG before...BUT IT ROCKS! Very slick as it is over regular paint.
The exterior trim was treated to UTTG.

Here are the finished shots:

Richy - as soon as i saw a post by you and you were detailing a white vehicle, my first thought was DG 501! LOL

i know you said not to ask, but can you reveal the company that made the cleaning product you used?

You're right, I adore the cleaning ability of 501 on white, but it can't be used under a coating. This product has similar deep cleaners but no polymers. I have promised not to say but if testing progresses well, there will be lots of information down the road. I can't wait to play with it again on dirtier paint! I'm thinking I want to see how it plays with the CQ on my Lincoln too.

Good work. Couple questions.

Did you spray the wheel wells then wipe off the product? I'm looking for something good to dress wheel wells with that doesn't take forever to apply.

What did you use on those touch up spots?

What kind of polish is that? When will it be released? LOL J/K.

The jeep looks great! Very nice work, sir.

The wells have that felt-like material on them so I just sprayed the tire shine on them. I wanted something that would be easy to spray, make the surface look blacker and neat. This seemed to work.
I used touch up paint I source from a paint supply house that supplies our local body shops.
And, thank you.

Richy,

I love the new Jeep Grand Cherokee's. The entire package overall is a winner and white complements its lines nicely. The Jeep looks better than new and I'm sure the owner is tickled pink with the results!

Thanks for the before and after photos as well as procedure.....:props:

Well done sir!

now do tell about the " squeaky clean" polish!!!!! LOL

Quality work Richy! Love the clear and thorough write up as well!

I knew I'd get some teasing about that, LOL. Thank you. In all honesty, if the rest of the testing is as positive as my first experience, I would love to see this come to market. I think there is a market for a stronger paint cleaner than the ones currently being offered (P21S, etc) that would precede a coating. As the coatings get more popular and people get more comfortable trying them, they will need something like that to precede it that will help the paint...and this definitely will.

Thank you Bobby, that is kind of you as usual! I was very proud of how this Jeep looked, even though it did not seem like I did all that much to it in the way of correction. I like working on white vehicles.

Well done sir!

Thanks Dad! I hope to tell lots about it in the coming months. Just keep an eye on my threads...

I hope to get my grubby little paws on this product... :D
You are my friend and a trusted detailer who is an expert on DG products so you know for sure I'll have it in your hands soon when I get more to play with. Guaranteed!

Quality work Richy! Love the clear and thorough write up as well!
Thank you very much. I keep changing the format I do my writeups in so people don't get bored reading the same old thing all the time. Hopefully it's working.
