2011 Venza=no success, am i doing somthing wrong

Gidday all,

Recently bought some FG400 to go along with my SF4000 and since i work at toyota we get alot of trade in's that go on the lot. Decided i'd give my FG400 a try today with my griots 6" and an orange pad. I did 2 section passes on speed 5. I did the whole side to side/up and down thing and i didn't get the results i was expecting.

Taken with a cellphone and a flash so not the best.Keep in mind the way i was holding the cellphone it didn't show defect on the bottom of the picture. This is the hood of a 2011 venza with Moderate swirls. It was clayed previous to starting. I applied moderate pressure to the da.

I DID go over it again with 2 passes and it did fix about 80%, but i feel like i shouldn't have to do 4 passes? Like i said there were still small scratches/swirls in the paint. I did go over with a polish after but sadly i didn't think of taking a picture so i don't have an after.
 
turn the speed up to 6, do 6-8 section passes, slow arm movement. enough pressure to keep the pad spinning but not enough to make it stop. make sure you mark your backing plate so you can see the pad spinning
 
Are you sure it's factory original paint and not a respray? My experience with most modern Toyota paints is that they are on the softer side.
 
I'll second making sure you are getting good rotation on the pad. Also I'd say I typically always make about 6 passes to make sure I've broken down the fg400 fully before stopping.

Exactly, great advice. FG400 is an awesome product.

thanks guys, i'll give er a try tomorrow. And it is a 6" Orange ccs pad on speed 5. Pressure was adaquete but not enough to really "hear" the difference.

It didn't look like a respray. Vehicle was a 2011 with 55,000k on er. Interior and exterior wasn't in bad shape at all


Bp is also marked and was spinning. Pad was flat on the surface, Although i did notice i did get a bit of "walking" when the DA wanted to run away from me when i was going up and down. I made sure my pad was centered on the BP too

:iagree: also with what was said above. FG400 is DAT so it needs to be broken down at least 5 passes on speed 6 with GG and you should have the results you are looking for.
 
Awesome thanks guys. I DID get results i was looking for today on a lexus is250 black... guy sideswiped a concrete poll and about 1/4 was below clearcoat. So i did 8 passes to be on the safe side and it got it all except what was below the clearcoat
 
What about using a microfiber cutting pad? I have been looking at them. Would it go the same way. Microfiber cut pad for compound and white ccs for finish?

Yep, I agree. I use mostly MF and hybrid pads now. My CCS pads just sit and take up space. I do use them for wax and sealant though.

I'll also agree with this. I did a black Armada with medium hard clear coat using FG400, GG6, 5.5 inch flat orange pad on speed 5.5. Did 4 heavy passes followed by 2 light passes. Came out LSP ready (for a production detail).
 
I never had much issue with my gg6 and 6 inch ccs pads and the menzerna line, but I spent minimal time with it before going to my 3401 and hybrid pads. Smaller pads can help but honestly I never had much trouble using 6 inch pads. I got great pad rotation even with heavy pressure.

I do this all the time. For things that need a bit more cut I'll do megs mf cut and follow with a white ccs or hybrid pad with menzerna sf4000
