I had previously relied on glazes to get a nice result. I didn't have the time to correct all at once. Then, two things happened: (1) I verified that I could correct in a piecemeal manor ( I corrected the car over the week, working on it at night) and (2) a member suggested I try Optimum Hyperpolish. For LSP, I wanted to try PNS/BSD combo..I'm not ready for coating (too heavy handed) and this seemed like the next best step. Here's my process and results...comments/critique welcomed (I want to get better).
Car- 2012 Alpine White M3 convertible
Wash- (1st to strip) CG wash and gloss 1:1 dilution, IronX, then re-wash [wheels/metal) CG diablo with wheelwoolies/speedmaster, ironx, then rewash with megs gold class (Tires/undercarriage) CG Orange degreaser then megs GC with tire brush
Decontamination- Nanoskin DA pad and hand sponge for tighter spots or problem areas.
Correction- OPT Hyperpolish, 7424XP with Cyan and tangerine pads (depending on level of correction). Also, used the SMACK technique (Thanks Mike)
Protection- Sonax PNS (used Evan's technique of applying with MFT)
Topper- Sonax BSD
Trim- TW Endurashine Tire and PNS to seal
Tires- TW Endurashine (3 coats)
Undercarriage- CG BareBones
Car Before
Wash (foam with Honeydew/ TBW with CG Cirtus 1:1)
Paint Before (hard to capture minor/moderate scratch on white)
Paint After (Cyan or Tangerine, 7424 using 6 -7 passes with last pass using only the weight of machine i.e. SMACK)
Sonax PNS applied with 800gsm MFT, wipe off with 530. Then Sonax BSD to top off
The Obligatory Hood Reflection Shot
TW Endurashine and PNS
My Helpers
Lessons:
- to make white look better, contrast is key: make the black as dark as possible and white as light as possible. Thanks Mike Phillips
-SMACK technique is versatile i.e. can be used for more than just Menz products. Thanks Mike
- OPT Hyperpolish is great! This is especially true for newbies. EASY to use, can alter the amount on correction needed based on the pad, no dust, and finishes LSP ready. Thanks Derrick aka Blown03
- Sonax PNS/BSD are not hard to work with. Evan's technique makes it easy. I actually purchased the applicator and it didn't work nearly as well as the 800gsm towel. However, I do think you will use a bit more product.
-The Nanoskin skin DA pad is EASY to use. Apply just enough pressure to keep machine spinning and if there's a stubborn spot, use the Nanoskin sponge.
