2012 Hyundai Genesis

This client found us through Autogeek after having his car “detailed” by several other shops. He even gave one Orlando area shop two attempts at it. Vehicle Spa, in Orlando, they told the owner of the Genesis that the swirls were caused from highway driving and that his paint wouldn’t accept the sealant. After the run around from them he tried a shop in Jacksonville, another disappointment. Luckily he found us through the forum to fix all of the mistakes.

The car was full of rotary trails, they were everywhere imaginable. The only place we couldn’t find them for the front bumper, which we assume they didn’t bother buffing because it would require a smaller pad/backing plate.

Knowing that the car had been detailed 4-5 times in the past 3 months, we were expecting it to be beading from all the LSPs added by previous details. We gave the vehicle a very thorough wash using APC at the proper dilution. After about 3 rounds of washes, all the wax/sealants/glazes were removed to reveal a paint that was in an unacceptable condition. The car was then clayed to make sure the paint was ready to be polished.

Some areas required two steps while others only required one step. The areas that needed two steps received Meg Ultimate Compound on an orange pad using the Griots DA, then followed with M205 on a white pad using the Griots DA. Some areas only required the one step of M205 on a white pad. When you know a car has been rotary buffed 4+ times, it is important to take the least aggressive approach to salvage the clear coat that still remains.

The car was sealed with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0

Some before pictures show the condition of that paint (other great before pictures in owners original thread):

Only did 50/50 of the hood as we were pushed for time since the owner traveled quite a distance to get it done, didn’t want him to wait any longer then he already was

Thanks for reading.

Magnificent job! I would have thought you would have had to be more aggressive than that to fix it. Lucky for him.

What a shame. I cannot believe all those shops were that incompetent.

He did a fantastic job on my car! I was so surprised that it was fixable after all of the bad detailing jobs I've received. I will be recommending everyone to him that needs their car done.

I want to thank him once again for all the work he did to make my car brand new again! Lesson learned, do not go to detailers who deal with higher capacity in a day. They will just go do anything they can to get you out of their shop and steal your money.

LuxuryMobile (Stephen) will be my main detailer for now on. Thanks to this forum!

Great job on fixing all the previous detailers (hacks). To the owner best of luck. The car looks really good glad you were able to get the car looking showroom.

Excellent job. I cannot believe what those detailers did.

This is what it's all about. An extremely satisfied customer in the end.

Knowledge is power. Before I joined this site I would have no idea what to look for in a detailer and that's why I was so hesitant to let any "good deal" handle my car. I had the same swirls and holograms in my black car and decided to invest in the detailing tools to do it myself. I could've saved money by finding a AGO quality detailer, but I enjoy working on my car so it was a long term investment.

Great job by the OP. It's an art form like Mike Phillips says and that is lost on a lot of "hacks" out there

Thanks for all the comments. It was great to see this forum work like it did to help Dominic out.

What a fantastic turnaround. That is a beautiful car that was completely hacked by so called professionals.

nice job fixing the mistakes of the hack(s). the genesis sedans are nice and have good amount of room inside and i like the layout of the front dash...

Outstanding save on a beautiful car. It just continually amazes me what folks can do and have the nerve to charge for it. Again great job.

Thanks guys.

Yea it doesn't make any sense that shops are leaving paying customers with their cars looking this way.

I'm still in awe of how badly the vehicle was finished out by those other shops...

Nice save! I'm glad this worked out in the end. Very nice work!

Don't really measure the APC but it is probably around 5-6 parts water and 1 part APC. Also mixed some in with the wash mixture.

It was absolutely ridiculous the condition that this Genesis was given back to the owner, Dominic, in. I don't even know how they could have managed to hide these outrageous swirls and holograms (I'm actually interested what product could possibly hide damage this bad) out of curiousity. Glad we were able to help Dominic and restore his faith that there are real detailers out there. Sad that someone would use excuses as outlandish as "highway induced swirl marks" from driving home  as an explanation for the buffer trails. Excellent work on the write-up Stephan and dialing in an effective system during the detail.
