My Dad just bought this 2012 Mustang GT 5.0 brand new a couple weeks ago and after taking a look at it I told him he had to let me fix what the dealer had done to it. Lots of DISO going on, with enough scratches in it to the point that it looked like the car had been washed with a push broom being drug across all the panels on the car. The crazy part is that this car was only on the dealer lot for one week. Lucky for this car it was adopted in to the right family.

This is by far and away the most time I've dedicated to detailing a vehicle as it took about 25 hours spread out over a week's time. My timing couldn't have been better as the day after he brought it over to me it began snowing quite a bit for the next 5 days so the car had no choice but to stay in my heated garage. :props:

I washed/decontaminated the car's paint last Friday and then spent the next 4 days compounding and polishing the finish. During the first day of compounding my Meguiars G110v2 went belly up on me with the notorious power cord failure. This is the second G110v2 I have had fail on me because of this issue. Hopefully they've corrected the issue by now (ridiculous that my replacement unit was the same faulty design) as I'll be sending this one back under warranty. So I actually did 90% of this detail using my old school Porter Cable 7424. That machine has never let me down no matter how hard I hammer on it. I'll keep it in my stable until the day it dies.

Products used:
  • Porter Cable 7424 DA (not the XP)
  • Meguiars Gold Class car wash
  • Sonax Full Effect w/ sprays of Griot's HD wheel cleaner for foaming action
  • Surbuf 4" & 5.5" pads
  • Lake Country 4" yellow, white & black CCS pads
  • Lake Country 5.5" yellow & white flat pads
  • Chemical Guys 5.5" black hex pad
  • Meguiars M105 & Ultimate Compound (UC used for added working time)
  • Meguiars M205
  • Menzerna P085rd
  • Carpro Eraser
  • Blue rolled edge microfibers
  • Griot's orange polish removal microfibers
  • Optimum Opti-coat 2.0
  • Wolfgang Black Diamond tire gel
On to the pictures!

The view outside my garage while I was inside doing work. We ended up getting 10" of snow!

Here are several examples of what the paint looked like prior to any correction. The entire car was covered with these defects.

Not even the tail lights were safe from the dealers "washing" methods.

This is that same tail light after correction.

More shots after correction (prior to P085rd and LSP).

And here's the final shots 2 days after applying Opti-coat 2.0 to all paint, hard plastics, glass surfaces (less windshield) and the wheels.

You should send your dad a bill and have him turn it in to the dealer.

When I ordered mine, I specifically had them write in the order that I would not accept if they washed it or put the front plate frame on.

Nice turn around. Your father is lucky to have you.

Looks awesome. The color accentuates the lines of the car. The cleanup is amazing. What is more amazing is that dealers do this type of damage as a part of their operating model. I just don't get it. You should send a bill to your Dad under an assumed name (along with the pics), and then have your dad seek reimbursement from the dealer due to "the damage" inflicted during their prep process.

Thanks for all the compliments. Forgot to add that I also used Iron X on the paint as well.

I mentioned this to him but I think he's looking at is as purchasing the car "as is," which doesn't seem right to me considering it was brand new. I'll keep hounding him to get some money back from the dealer.

Unfortunately this was 1 of 2 2012 models left on the west coast that had the Brembos on it, so he had to take what he could find. Got a pretty dang good price on it though.

That's because that's what they do!

That is the perfect thing to do to a new car, IMO. Especially black! It's easier to keep it nice from the start than it is to bring it back after a few years of swirly washing. Opti Coat will keep that to a minimum. :xyxthumbs:

Every few years you get hammered good around the SeaTac area. Good thing the power didn't go bellyup on you, it really puts a damper on polishing. Ice followed the snow on the west side of the Sound, some friends on Harstine Island were without power for two days.

Nicely done!

Fantastic work. Not much better than a flawless black paint job! :xyxthumbs:

It's funny you should mention the power going out, because we did lose power twice, but only for a couple hours at a time. I was thinking "hey, no worries, I'll detail by candle light...oh, wait..."

But totally agree about putting Opticoat on a new car. Especially soft, black paint.

Thanks again to all who have commented.

It really shows that even on a new car how severe the finish defects can be.

The Mustang came out gorgeous and I'll bet Dad is wide-eyed and pleased!!

Absolutely gorgeous!! :props:

The car turned out awesome...
I have instructed dealers as well, no washing of the car, no front plate frame and certainly, no DEALERSHIP logo, marking, emblem of any sort on the back end. (They're not paying me to advertise for them)
I've always told them that the deal would be off and I would not accept the car if those 3 conditions were not met.
