A friend of mine just recently bought the new Subaru BRZ. And I was lucky enough to perform a new car detail for him. Subaru really stepped up their game this year.

He got the car on Monday and the paint was already in rough shape, due to pollen and rain. The only thing the dealership did to the car was peel the plastic and stickers off. After claying, the paint was in very good condition except for a few etching from bird dropping.

Here when the car arrived. Overall in decent shape.

When he arrived I went and rinsed the car with my pressure washer.

Then went and started up the Foam cannon. Used Hyper wash and OPC to help loosen up the dirt.

Let the foam dwell for a couple minutes.

Rinsed everything off.

Two bucket method with Duragloss 901 car soap.
IMG_2815.jpg

Wash the car from top to bottom.
IMG_2820.jpg

Then rinse all the soap off.

Then used leaf blower to blow out all the water in cervices.

Pulled the car inside and started claying with Meguair's kit clay.

The garage use to be full to the top, one small walk way. After cleaning up for a couple days and taking down few shelves. Now I can fit a car inside and detail it comfortably. :)

After claying was done, I used IPA mixture to clean the surface. Forgot to take photos of it.

We decided on BFWD because he wanted something durable and that will make his car look shiny/wet.
IMG_2856.jpg

Used Griot's with Lake country blue pad to apply sealant.

Finished sealing, took a 10 min break and let the wax cure for a bit. BFWD was so easy to remove. One of my favorite sealant. I'm not sure how durable it is compared to Klasse but it was a breeze taking it off. Can't say the same for Klasse.

Used Invisible Glass with Rain Repellent on outside windows and Meguair's glass cleaner on the inside.

Here a short video showing the difference without and with Rain Repellent.

Thanks for looking!

Great job Gary! The car looks pretty neat. :)

Do you mind if I point out 2 things?

1 - I'd take the rear plate off and clay the area

2 - after claying polishing is a good idea.

I realize that maybe the budget wasn't there or something like that, but I never skip those 2 steps.

Excellent job otherwise though.

Yeah the lines of this car is

I don't usually take off plates, but I will start doing it for the nicer cars. :)

I asked if he wanted to polish (M205/PO85rd), but my friend didn't want to remove any clear today. So I just went with wash/clay/sealant.

Thanks!! :xyxthumbs:

Those cars are stunning, got to see a pearl white FR-S last weekend, what a car for $25k! Now, you mentioned Klasse being hard to remove, well, I must say you've gotta be applying it waaaaaay too thick and I assume your talking about SG, right? I've always damped my applicator, sprayed one of two quick squirts, wiped it on and then grabbed my MF and removed it w/o any effort. Now I'll remind you I've always applied it by hand too but still, easy to remove.

I agree about polishing, especially on a car so new, start right from the start, your not going to be removing any clear with a light polishing of the paint, maybe next time. I went to town on my car the very next day I got it and haven't looked back, actually haven't even had to put a wheel on it either, LOL!

In closing, that blue is THE color for that car, Subaru and their blue's, its a thing of beauty!!!

That's a cool car. Haven't seen one "in the wild" yet.

Nice detail! My neighbors fiance is a purchasing manager over at the local Subaru dealer. She had showed me some photos of this car a few months back and I was impressed with the overall design of the vehicle. I was very disappointed to find out there was no turbo option for the car just yet, otherwise it may have been the perfect car for my wife to cruise around in/learn to drive a manual on. She did however tell me that they are expecting a supercharged version to hit the dealerships possibly as soon as next year!

I test drove one, it's a sweet little ride and alot of car for $25K imho.

nice work gary
Thanks John!

nice work, cool car
Thanks!! This car was very easy to work with. :)

Yeah the FR-S is practically the same car as BRZ and for 25K there nothing in that price range more appealing.

I apply Klasse SG with a DA, I think I have been applying too much. And it was usually done outside in the sun. Going try applying it by hands next time on my car.

I asked him couple time before he came if he wanted to do a light polish and he didn't like the idea. His budget was also into consideration, he didn't want to spend too much. He said he going get winter prep and maybe get corrections done next spring if needed.

I also told him to either pick up ONR or waterless wash, a lot easier/faster to maintain. And avoid going to any type of car washes.

That's a cool car. Haven't seen one "in the wild" yet.

Yeah I was lucky I had chance to get to detail and document some photos of it. These are are very rare, they only have 2-3 in each dealership and next shipping is next year.

Toyota and Subaru really did a great job with the overall design and performance, for 30k new you can't beat it.

Never even knew Subaru came out with this, its a decent looking car but really looks like a Hyundai lol

Motor Trend just did a $28000 comparo and they loved the BRZ. My poor beloved GTI got beat. Rumors are that the next gen STI will be based on the BRZ platform.

Woohooo!!! That was fun! Great work and writeup buddy!

It's great to get some garage space eh?!

Based on the information I've heard, those rumors are in fact true.

Might have to pick one up.. :xyxthumbs:

First things first, Klasse SG in the sun is NO NO!!!

I just read a comparo with the current Miata, the Genesis coupe' w/ the 2.0 T and the BRZ, the BRZ came in first whereas the other 2 tied for 2nd place. All cars have a great platform to start with, the Genesis has the most power and is the largest of the group, the Miata is the ICON (the next one is coming, look out BRZ-FR-S!) and the BRZ is the hott, new one in the neighborhood, intrigues everyone and you just wanna know what its all about.

The future is bright as hell for the 2 new comers and trust me, Mazda is going to take this sitting down, the next Miata is supposed to be smaller and lighter and have a 1.3L turbo, too bad the British can't get back into the game, that would be EPIC:dblthumb2: Imagine a modern version of the Lotus Elan, it would be game over IMO.
