Haven't posted anything in a long time so I thought this was a good time since I picked up this used 2014 Ford Taurus Limited about two weeks ago. Started the detail almost immediately but both my 2 7/8" & 5" backing pads came apart. The 2 7/8" had not been used before and it didn't make it throught the left front fender before it melted to the pad. Anyway, it's going to be a fun project when I get new backing pads.View attachment 32537View attachment 32538

Rotary or DA?
What product and pad were you using? Closed cell pads don't retain the liquid quite as readily. Therefore they tend to not overheat as quickly. MF pads heat up quickly also.

I was using a Porter Cable 7424, white LC CCS pad and Menzerna
IP2000.

I just purchased a 13 focus titanium in the same color from florida as a second car. Just waiting on it to be delivered now.

Just got an escape in black, love the way it drives! I am really suprised with that taurus though. It is huge

This color is called "Dark Side". The metallic is very reflective.
I've got a variety of sealants and waxes from AG but I'm curious about some of the waxes specific to black paints.
Congrats on the new car..!!

It is huge and comfortable. I was surprised myself when I test drove it. It also has just about every feature you can think of.

Closed cell. Try a backing plate that dissipates heat. Or change/clean your pads after each section pass. May stretch out the detail time wise, but will allow a cooling period.

Hook and Loop Backing Plates, Velcro brand hook & loop backing plate, meguiars backing plates, lake country backing plates

I will replace them with better pads. The 5" pad was several years old so I don't have a problem with that but the 2 7/8" pad is the one that came with the CCS 4" Spot Buff Pad kit and again it didn't make through the left front fender before it melted. The pad was clean as I was just starting the detail.View attachment 32551

I stand corrected. You have dark side which is like a dark navy blue. I just have well, black with metallic flake

You are correct, it is black with the metal flake. Dark Side is what the Ford dealer told me the color was. The black without the metal flake is called Tuxedo black so I didn't question it.

I have a 2011 Tuxedo Black (which is black metallic) and I love it! I am always getting compliments on it. The trunk space is a huge bonus.

I just recently order the sample jars of Dodo Purple Haze and Blue Velvet. After polishing out with Menz products it turned out amazing.

I have used mainly megs product on it before that (ie. M21, M26, and Gold Class) which the 21/26 combo was really good IMO, the Dodo seemed to mute the flake a bit which I liked.

You may want to consider painting your calipers and rotor hats as the rust pretty quickly.

Enjoy the new ride!
