Smokem if you got em....

And just to note, Earl installed a Line Lock system to lock up the front brakes to make doing burn-outs safe... well at least as safe as a burn-out can be.

This cloud of smoke was a big as a house! Courtesy of the Goodyear Tire Corporation.

This is where the proverbial rubber actually does meet the road...

That's Yancy using his finger to write Autogeek in the molten rubber while it's still liquid! He says it burnt his finger! Kids... don't try this at home...

1963 Plymouth Fury Burning Out after filming "What's in the Garage" TV show!

Here Carlos is saying something but I'm not sure what as his Plymouth Fury is kind of loud... in hindsight I think he was saying...

"I'll do a burn-out as I leave"

1963PlymouthFury010.jpg

I didn't hear what he said but I heard his tires when they started talking!

I quickly grabbed my trusty, dusty Canon Rebel and snapped a few pictures...

Carlos really laid down some rubber!

The concrete is incredibly coarse...

This is what posi-trac looks like...

Here's Frank wiping some metal polish off the side of the Meguiar's truck. If you look closely you'll see Earl the Plumbers 1970 El Camino with 512 Fire-Breathing Big Block Chevy and a Posi-Trac Rearend.

His is the shorter looking red thing next to my red Chevy...

Earl came by to visit with his dog Copper and when he left he lit em up...

And this my friends is what posi track looks like with a BBC melting the tires off the car!

Posi-Trac_002.jpg

I'm pretty sure Earl's out shopping for a new set of tires...

Here's the 1970 El Camino that did this burn-out....

Here's the motor...

Looks like fun. Good thing it was on concrete, I've seen epic burnouts burn a 1/4" spot into asphalt.

Next time scoop up all that rubber and make a ball out of it!

You'll need a putty knife to scrape all that rubber out of the wheel wells!

Hey Mike,

Just out of curiosity...don't the owners of the cars in the surrounding area get a little peeved-off due to all the smoke getting on their cars, especially if they have their windows open?

I knew this was what you were talking bout Mike, before I even clicked the thread! Guess I'm "getting to know you"! LOL

And here's the ONLY appropriate song to hear that sums it all up!

PS: The hooks in your last pic, well my '67 Stingray, and '68 SS 396 Camaro would do those all day long! ;-)

I know that will be a bear to clean up.........but it's still completely rowdy, love it!

I dunno... I find blatant standstill burnouts like that disrespectful, both to the people in the vicinity and the car. Worse when they're such nice cars as those were.

Sure give it some stick (at the appropriate time/place), but no need for that IMO...

Are you for real? I am hoping that was a joke

IMO its good clean fun - but hey, if you dont like it you can always find something else that suits your tastes.

LOL @ Swanicyouth!!! I needed to see that this morning. The #3 is a bunch of french Canadians which I would bet based on the dialect, accent and stupidity to be from my neck of the woods. Trying to douse the fire with beer!!!....that is sacrilegious, especially trying to save the clunker!!

OH the memories...
Reminds me of this Platters sing-a-long:

Nowadays:
I realize that burnouts (I heard somebody in the background say hooning) are best reserved for rentals...as this, is surely: God's intention for fleet vehicles.

I didn't hear any complaints except for valid concerns for safety. The majority, not all but the majority of the guys at a Saturday morning Cars & Coffee would describe themselves as gear-heads... and burn-outs are what gear-heads do if they've built up their car to the point it can take it.

All the cars in this thread have big blocks. All of them have posi-trac as verified by two strips of rubber, not a single strip. (single trac rear-end).

They also have the money to burn literally. I know Early told me after doing the burn-out with his El Camino his tires were down to the cord.

Also just to note, Autogeek does not promote or endorse doing burn-outs on at our facilities. Each one of these caught me by surprise.

In the future I'll be getting the word out that for safety reason we can't have people doing burn-outs in such close proximity to people. God forbid something goes wrong and someone ends up like me...

:dblthumb2:

Burn outs are great - as long as they are done in your car with your tires.

Not my cars...

But outs do t always go as planned.

Reminds me of this kid who worked at the shop with me in my HS after school job. He had a Ford Fiesta manual transmission he claimed could do tire smoking, power brake burnouts. We called him on his claim so he showed us. Sure enough, he held the brake, revved the motor and dumped the clutch - smoke started pouring out - but the wheels remained still. We walked over to the other side, that wheel wasnt moving either - it was the clutch he was smoking, LOL!
