Greetings All,

First time posting here. I have an 11 Mustang convertible with a black fabric top. After much reading it seems that 303 is a solid choice for protecting the top. My question is do I need to spring for the specific kit with the cleaner etc? Or can I just use regular 303 after I wash the car? I am using Gold Class wash right now and the top has no spots or other issues.

Thanks
Mike

grab either the 303 Convertible Kit or the Raggtop kit ... I believe they are both designed specifically for verts and not the same as other products in the line. Just remember to choose the correct type, fabric or vinyl.

:welcome: to AG

I've used both Raggtop and 303 and they are both good.
Out of the (2) I prefer the 303 for my canvas (fabric) top.

To answer your question I believe you can order them seperate but I would recomend getting a matching cleaner and protector.
I think buying the 303 products seperate saves money. Double check me.

303

Kit:

I love 303 for my fabric top,for the first time i would use the cleaner than protectant and afterwards just use the car wash soap to keep it clean. The 303 cleaner would remove the protectant.

And here's another perspective. I prefer the RaggTop for a major reason. Used RagT for several years and love it. Ran out recently, and my local supplier said, "well I can get it next week" which was not helping my situ at the time. He said, "hey try the 303, you'll like it." I did and while a decent product, it does not apply as nicely. The wet spray when first spraying inevitably gives droplets, and while yes you are to smooth it all out with a course sponge, the RagT sprays on with a fine even mist, and needs no second step. AND as I got to bottom of product in plastic bottle, it draws air with product as any wet sprayer does. You cannot see where the very botton of suction hose IS, so its a bit hit or miss when you are on the dregs. Its not the product I disliked but its the wet spray. Not nearly as smooth and even as RagT in the aerosol. Back to the RT cleaner, and protection for this guy...just a thot. I don't like fighting with my food on my plate or with a product for the car. Good luck and oh, mine was fabric BMW Z4.

This is for certain! You only use the cleaner once or twice a year when its time to re-apply protectant.

The Raggtop is great but here was my major issue. After cleaning with the cleaner and allowing to completely dry it is best to apply the protectant (of either brand) in very thin coats. In between applying coats you want to have your car in the sun (outside) so that each thin coat cures nicely. With the Raggtop this means that if their is even a hint of breeze then you need to take the car into the garage to apply each coat and them pull it back out to allow to dry. Even then the aerosol is so thin that some can get on paint. Due to this I usually cover the paint and glass before applyng. With the 303 it is a little heavier and not aerosol so I can control it and don't have to pull it in and out of the garage 3 times.

If you do go with the raggtop maybe use one of those cones they put on dogs after surgery to stop the overspray.

Thanks for the great advice and different perspectives. I will look at both a little closer and make a decision. Sounds like both have their merits. And neither would be a bad choice.

Thanks for the links. Since over spray is an issue with RaggTop could you spray it on a foam applicator and apply it that way if using the non-aerosol version?

With the non aerosol version you won't have the same overspray issues. Don't get me wrong its still there and you would want to keep a quality mf towel and qd near by. But it wouldn't be as bad as the aerosol (where it can end up on your front bumper or anywhere).

To answer your question yes you could do that but I wouldn't personally do it that way. Spraying it directly on it will get in between the fibers like you want it to while still be able to apply it in thin layers. Thin layer, allow dry, repeat
Having said that I have actually seen a thread where someone applies it with a paint brush to avoid the overspray.
