Hello,

I recently received all the new 303 Automotive products, and this was the first product I was able to try out.

303 Automotive Quick Wax

I have to admit, this product description was a little confusing to me. A quick wax that cleans? Is it a waterless wash type product? Doesnt seem to be. Or is it more like a quick detailer? Maybe more the latter? The description reads more like a quick detailer as far as being able to remove water spots and fingerprints, but then again, pretty much any spray wax can really do that. But this contains carnauba wax, so it really is a spray wax.

Here is a photo after I sprayed a section of my car.

Here is what I can tell you, I did not like this product AT ALL! In some ways it reminded me of Meguiars NXT Spray wax, and that is not a good thing!

Here is what I did not like about it. First off, it was streaky, it did not spread very evenly and did need some real buffing to be streak free. Second, it did not leave the surface of my paint slick at all. Third, it says it repels dust, it did not. Directly next to where I applied this product, I used 303 Speed detailer and Pinnacle XMT Spray wax. There was absolutely no difference in the amount of dust my car had accumulated between either of these products. But how the paint felt was night and day. The Speed Detailer left my paint very slick as did the XMT, the 303 Quick Wax did not. My car is well maintained, so therefore I could not see a difference in appearance between either product. They all looked the same to me.

Look at the label carefully and you can see a few more negatives. One it cannot be used on a hot surface in direct sunlight (some spray waxes can, some cannot). Second, it cannot be used on a damp surface (no drying aid here). Third, and this is a big one, they recommend additional buffing may be required! WHAT? I have used many spray waxes and most if not all wipe on, wipe off, virtually no buffing required. This is a major flaw in this product because additional buffing means additional opportunity to instill scratches and swirls. ALso means this product is not so user friendly. I did need additional buffing to get the finish streak free.

Notice this is the same bottle Optimum uses but a different sprayer.

For the positives, it does have a nice pleasant scent.

I really do not like to give a product a negative review. I have used other 303 products and they were all good, but this one is definitely a miss. My intention was to try this product out on a car that I know is in need of being waxed or protected, but after my brief trial on my car, I am scrapping that plan and wont use this product, even if it might work better on neglected paint.

I did not take any after pictures because there really isnt much to show.

Thank you for reading.

Thanks for the review. I will see how it works out for me once I get my items.

I have the same questions as you do with regards to it being described as having a cleaner and a wax.

Thanks for the review.

Strange...
but I didn't experience any of the same negatives
with 303's Marine Quick Wax: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/92101-303-products-review.html

And:
Since both their Automotive/Marine Quick
Waxes have eerily similar product descriptions:
I would not have thought the Automotive version
would have had such disparate results.

All,

Let me try and put my 2 cents in here.

Marketing is a funny thing and sometimes it reads differently to different people and people with different interest levels and knowledge. Being Autogeek’s on this forum were exposed to everything from the professional products to the lowest of the consumer level products, they are all open to discussion. That being said sometimes key words and different language need to be used to attract a new customer.
Product- Is this a wax? Well it has carnauba in it so I guess you can classify it as a wax. However it is more of an acrylic sealant with a carnauba booster to provide that warmth that many people like from carnauba. It also has the most amount of uv protection that could be crammed in there and still be productive.
That being said- Never use it on a wet car, heck even when it's incredibly damp outside don't use it. The dry time will be too long and it will streak.
In direct sunlight- use your best judgment- again direct sunlight to an AG member may be very different than a general consumer. I used the product all day at Detail Fest last year on a black rental Camaro convertible outside and the thing looked great. It had to be the best looking returned rental car there, except for maybe the car in Meg’s booth, but hey they have compounds and polishes.
Additional buffing- Again difference of terminology. Remember many people believe more is better, well if you use too much of this then yes it will require more buffing. Like most products less is more. I normally use one towel spread flip and buff.
Is this the same as our marine product. Not gonna lie its similar but has been reformulated for paint vs gelcoat, Basically not as concentrated.
Bottle- I know optimum uses the clear blue bottle which I actually like, I've never seen a solid color one. It's also the same bottle we use for our marine and patio 16 oz products just blue instead of white. Rest assured 303 bottles all its own products, and maybe others.
Finally, like any product it will have its likes and dislikes. It is absolutely more temperamental than many “quick waxes” “Fast Waxes” etc . Think about how many people have had issues with the acrylic based KSG (Which is one of my favorites as well) the first time they used it. Will I be tossing out my Aquawax anytime soon, NO WAY. Will I be getting rid of my Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Spritz, Probably not, But this product has a place just like any other.

Thanks for taking the time to share your (honest) thoughts Jaret.

This reminds me of the first time I cooked Oscar Meyer Turkey Bacon. I normally purchase the "Butter Ball" brand, but my wife accidentally picked up Oscar Meyer one day (coincidentally, Oscar Meyer makes the best Pork Bacon).

Anyway. So I had high expectations for the Oscar Meyer Turkey Bacon, but I was quickly let down after cooking it. It was too chewy and way too greasy. I tossed it in the garbage.

Fast forward a few months, and my wife accidentally purchased the Oscar Meyer branded turkey bacon AGAIN! I had no choice but to try it again, because that's all we had. I adjusted the temperature on the stove and also let it cook about a minute longer. PERFECT! It turned out to be even better than my beloved "Butter Ball" brand. All I had to do was adjust my technique for cooking the bacon, and that fixed the issue.

Are you picking up what I'm laying down? :)

Give 303 Quick Wax another shot and please report back. I'm confident in Matt (MPBGT) at 303. :dblthumb2:

I get everything written above. It was cool outside (mid 60's) and my car was not in the sun, nor were my panels even remotely warm. And my car was completely dry, in addition to it being a relatively low humidity day in South Florida due to the cold front. So none of the potential issues could have affected my trial and results.

<<. It is absolutely more temperamental than many “quick waxes” “Fast Waxes” etc .>>

From a consumer perspective, to me that is a problem, especially for a product as simple as a quick or spray wax should be.

I have used many spray "waxes". One of the worst I ever used was Meguiars NXT. Here is a product from the largest car care company in the world that was an absolutely disaster. That stuff was nearly impossible to wipe off. On the flip side, Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax was as simple and easy to use as NXT was difficult. So is XMT Spray Wax, and the new Blackfire Spray Wax. NXT can be used in direct sunlight and on hot surfaces. Blackfire can be used as a drying aid!

All the restrictions on 303 Quick Wax make it less user friendly. And the fact that it took a good deal of "buffing" to get completely streak free was an issue for me.

Even this morning, I gently glided my finger over the panels where I applied Quick Wax and Speed Detailer, and the speed Detailer panel was still super slick, the Quick Wax was not, just like after I applied it.

Are there lots of great products that are finicky to use? Of course. But there are just as many great products that are super easy to use. I cannot recommend products that are difficult to use, or have to many parameters in order to work properly, unless they do something that no other product does, or do it better to make the effort worthwhile.

303 Quick Wax does not do anything better or offer anything different than any other "spray" wax for it to merit recommendation despite it being finicky to use.

I want to add a few other points. Nick, I get your story, but I have tried many products and was extremely pleased or even pleasantly surprised the first time I used them. There was no second time needed. Secondly, I also tried on the same day the sample of EagleOne Nanowax I had (not sold through AG) and while that wax didnt wow me in any sort of way, I had no issues with applying it and removing it with ease and streak free.

Trust me, I was disappointed. I really like the 303 Speed Detailer as well as many other 303 products, but this particular one was not a hit with me, and one that I cannot recommend.

Thanks for the well-written and honest review, Jaret!

Turkey bacon? No thank you. I don't care how you cook it that stuff is nasty... I'll stick with Aquawax.

Meh, sometimes expanding one's product line is not the best idea. So many other spray waxes out there...

I dont know about aquawax for a substitute for bacon....but whats the point of eating bacon if its not actually bacon!

I think I am hijacking my own thread here!

Doesn't turkey bacon defeat the purpose of bacon?
