It's also available in 1/2" and 3/4" widths. The 3/4" is really nice to have around, especially for taping around sunroofs!
I agree having more selection on hand is better than just the thin tapes we currently stock. I can pass this thread onto management to see if they want to bring in at least the 1/2" version. I know I prefer this tape over paper tapes so much that sometimes I'd rather use two strips of the 1/4" to cover something like a sunroof gasket then fight the paper version not just on curving it but the adhesive residue that comes off paper tapes easier than the 3M Blue Vinyl Tape.
And in my how-to book I warn people to tape off sunroof gaskets before buffing them out ESPECIALLY if they are the fuzzy type because if you cream these out with compound or polish residue and it's incredibly difficult to remove.
With the fuzzy types of gaskets you can damage the gasket if you try to scrub it too hard with any manner of brush.

Note the 3M blue vinyl tape on the sunroof gasket from this most recent project where the car had a sunroof.

A few tips about buffing out BMW's
Anytime you have a sun roof, be sure to tape off the sun roof gasket, whether it's rubber or the fuzzy material. Otherwise it's real easy to stain it with compound and polish residue. For this we used the 3M Blue Vinyl Tape.
This BMW had a lot of exterior plastic trim. To protect it from spatter we taped everything off using painter's tape. Later, Bran restores all the plastic trim to give it a refreshed look to go with the restored paint.

Before I washed it here's what polish residue looks like after it's dried into fuzzy gaskets like used around the sunroof.

Note we didn't carry the 3M Blue Vinyl Tape when I did this project. I do normally have my own stock.
You can see it in this picture the first time I buffed this Porsche out...

On youtube is a video posted by 3M showcasing the marine refinishing system, and in that video they show wide (1 1/2" - 2") yellow vinyl tape and they call it number 471.
Just wondering. I can see it coming in real handy for certain types of work, being easier to work around curves and such, not to mention not tearing apart upon removal.
I'll forward the link to this thread to management and let them decide if they want to bring it in. Since we're a 3M retailer we have access to all of their line.
