I was told just yesterday, by my automotive body/paint supply salesman, that 3M just came out with a revamped version of one of their heavy cutting compounds and if my memory serves me correctly I believe he said it was in their "high end" Perfect-It line. He said it was just recently released (last few days or weeks).

Does anyone have any information on this?

Sorry Bill...
The only information I've heard regarding a new Perfect-It
compound is that it's supposed to be for the Ceramic CC's.

Also...
3M is supposed to be coming out with a more user-friendly
version of its: "Perfect-It De-nibbing System".

Hi Bob,

My information came from Savage KOI. It wasn't clear if they had the product in stock, or if they just had release information. I'll call them again tomorrow and ask some questions.

Let us know your thoughts on the revamped system. My body shop was on the older formulation and I brought my M105/M205 in to compare them side by side and the Meg's twins consistently blew the older 3M line out of the water.

Needless to say we are now using the Meguiar's system.

I used plenty of M105 on my black Trailblazer until I ran out. Used the current version of 3M Perfect-It rubbing compound and I really liked it. Quite the difference in working time and after a 12% alcohol rub down, then a much strong version...as in straight 70% percent...I couldn't see where it didn't remove heavy oxidation, water spots, and swirls any less effective than M105. The only thing that would keep me from using it is the smell...I hate it.

Now, did those wipedowns remove all the oils that many claim 3M has. You would think so, but I guess it's possible it didn't. No gumming issues with it since it's more lubricated from the start. I really enjoyed how it worked and performed, just hate that smell and because of it will stick with Meguiar's mostly. Getting ready to try M100 soon, I hope.

This product (3M 06085) 3M Perfect-It 3000 Rubbing Compound, 3M Rubbing Compound, 3M Perfect It 3 is the first 3M product that I tried, although my quart came in a bottle that looked more like this bottle 3M Perfect-It 3000 Rubbing Compound, car polishing compound, auto paint compound which obviously is the 16 oz. version. To clarify, my quart of this 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound came in a similar purple bottle as the 16 oz. version linked above.

Okay gang, I have an update for you.

Just last night I found a link to this new product on Renny Doyle's website. So, as it turned out my salesman at our local paint supply was right in that 3M was releasing a new rubbing compound.

Today I stopped by our local KOI paint supply. Sure enough the same salesman that had originally told me about 3M revamping their rubbing compound indeed made mention of it again today while I was there. Except this time he placed a bottle of this new rubbing compound in my hand. It's called 3M Perfect-It EX Rubbing Compound 36060 and it comes in the same purple quart container shown in the similar looking 16oz. bottle that I linked above.

From the front of the label:
- EXtra cutting power
- Better Performance in EXtreme Climates
- EXtreme Performance on EXtreme Paints

From back of the label:
"3M Perfect-It EX Rubbing Compound is designed to remove P1200 and finer scratches with a 3M compounding pad.. It is designed to work over a broad climatic range, including extreme conditions..."

I haven't used this product...yet...but I did take note of something quite different about this new product, it's smell. No longer does this product have that chemical smell that will give you a buzz, and I for one am glad that smell is gone.

The smell of this new 36060 Perfect-It EX is quite tolerable with a distinctly less "loud" smell to it. Rather than having that loud solvent smell of the old version, this new version has a toned down and much softer smell of a mild smelling sunscreen. It will be interesting to give this new product a try.

I can only assume that the old product 06085 may be discontinued. What I can tell you is that the new 36060 has the number 1 listed on the bottome of the bottle just as the 06085 has a number 1 listed also on its label.

Makes me wonder if the entire Perfect-It line is going to see this same revamping process?

There you go gang...the new version does exist...I have a bottle right in front of me at my disposal.

Also, the 3M Compound and Finishing Material is getting a new label as well. I don't recall what the name said on the label, but what stood out to me with the new label is that the first word on the label will read...

...Marine.

I think it's now going to be called 3M Marine Compound and Finishing Material. This product is essentially like Meguiar's M67 in that it's a one-step type product.

While their Finesse-It II Finishing Material bottles at our local paint supply are still listed as such, last fall I was in a West Marine store and seen that they had a quart size bottle of Finesse-It II Finishing Material and it too also had a new label on that bottle, listing it as a "Marine" Finesse-It II Finishing Material, and a product with a totally redesigned label.

The other day i just notice it. I'll be sure to pick up a bottle. Thank for the info.
